Al, Dave not longer works at Lockheed. Shortly after his career ended there, he got married. Last I heard, he manages a restaurant in San Jose. However, reliable reports state that he and Rick Harlan have been seen again climbing together at Castle as recently as two weeks ago. Just the facts.

"a hold broke on california 5.11".....i just thought the name implied it was sandbagged...as if california climbers blah blah blah.....compared to the other 5.11's at castle rock it definitely seemed sandbagged. i'm curious the hardest or sketchiest climbs that yabo or anyone else has free soloed at crsp? i used to love running laps on mullah but was always afraid the "globe" would break off when i'd swing free...after all it is sandstone.

Wait a f*#king second...
Where is "Run and Gun?"
Al, is there a picture of you hanging at Granite Stairway in SLO?
There is a pic of a corner crack system, this pic reminded me of it.
Me thinks there be a connection to backcountry routes along hwy 108. Have you climbed around there?

Mungeclimber. "Run And Gun" is at Billyland, at Echo Lakes. Tahoe area. He didn't hang or fall on it.
Another Dude Photo.
The first ascent of "Smokehouse Brown" 5.10. Higher Phantom Spire.

I believe it takes a while for the photos to link from the photobucket server. On dialup, loading photos is always slower than most pages due to the high bandwidth of data that needs to be retrieved from the different servers.
On my DSL it took 3 seconds to load this thread :-)
After you load the page once it should be faster the next time if your browser caches the photos in your temp folder on your hard drive.
And further more blah blah blah, and more blah blah.
You understand ........

Dude! Finally getting the hang of this forum stuff. Just wanted you to know that I too appreciate you. So what if it took me a few years to catch up with this appreciation thread, right? Best memories come from the Meadows of course. Seemed like you and I were always eyeing the same lines, luckily there was still plenty of virgin rock BITD.
Every year it seems harder to remember names of routes and who done em, for example did you do "Go for the Gold" next to Paris is Burning? That is an awesome route.
To possibly rectify Morris statement about the Al Hussein on Platypus rock at Castle, I dug these pics from deep in the archives. Not sure if they are first ascent footage or not. Maybe Morris knows, as long as he is outta the fog. PS. Morris thanks for keeping the record straight, otherwise I might have faded into obscurity, being out of the scene for so long.

Al Baby! Al always had talent and go for it right from the very start, surfing, climbing and partying. When we first took him out, I would point him up a climb and not tell him how hard it was, assuring him it was 5 easy. He would get after it and get up it, always. Here's to you Al.
