You certainly won't be breaking too many handles with that design,
but what's the itty bitty hole in the head for?

The D5 arrived today and I have big plans for it.

Purchased the Camp Brenta in 2001, it has since traveled from the Canadian Rockies to Squamish, Northern Ontario, Northern BC, and the Yukon. It has placed and drilled a good 100+ bolts, cleaned and established over 50 new routes, and hammered home a few hundred pitons.

One of several I've ended up with, but still the best for drilling/pounding stuff (nice n heavy).

Picked up from a random climbing shop in Moscow, Russia for $10 several years ago. The hook on the end and the slight bump on top make it great for levering out stuff. I also like that it has that sort of soviet industrial feel with the squared off edges. No worries about the head ever coming off, it's welded on!

Although I hardly ever use it, most of my pounding is in the alpine with an ice tool.

I have one like the third one from the left in Haan's picture. I got it from a retired caver along with about 30 assorted pins and hooks for $35. It's got about three inches cut off the handle, but still drives pins okay.

I need to learn how to post up pictures.

Joe.

Big Waller's Creed -

This is my hammer. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
My hammer is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.
My hammer, without me, is useless. Without my hammer, I am useless. I must swing my hammer true. I must swing harderer than my enemy, both gravity and rock, who is trying to kill me. I must defeat it before it defeats me. I will...
My hammer and myself know that what counts in this "war" is not the pins we nail, the ringing of iron, or the scars we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit...
My hammer is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its whole Hickory body. I will keep my hammer clean and ready, even as I am cleaning. We will become part of each other. We will...
Before God, I swear this creed. My hammer and myself are the defenders of my company'...the legion of wall rats. We are the masters of our "enemy". We are the saviors of my life.
So be it, until victorious and there is no enemy left....glorious atop the bodies of our enemies!
