The entitlement discussion is pretty much as harihari said, Ron, do we have to paint you a picture?

I'm one of them and I think hh nailed it. It's the Bwana Syndrome.

Too small for football.
Too short for basketball.
Nobody played soccer in 1978.
Don't like sharks and can't swim for sh#t - so no surfing.
Really did well at wrestling - but people think it's ghey.

Climbing seemed the only thing left at the time.

What the real question should be is...

"Why did so many climbers end up being engineers?".

what steve says - a lot of it has to do with who historically has had access to what privileges.

t*r, you are the perfect of example of what you claim to be against. An arrogant whitey.

That is NOT what Steve's point was. You look at everything through a lens of 'downtrodden', 'minority', or 'underprivaledged'.

Bullshit!

Many "minorities" have equal access to the sport. Most choose not to engage in it for the same reason other 'whities' don't. "I'm afraid of heights" or "that looks dangerous" or "why would you want to do that".

STFU!!!

Skippy eloquatly posited that;
Thinking inside the box can be an easy way to life. After all, you can trust that others have thought things through for you. But, when you step out and start to think for yourself, even the least among us can achieve great things.

Each and every one of us have within ourselves a brand new box to share with the world.

And knubskull replied;

^^^ an excellent example of the entitled attitude we've discussed

You really piss me off sometimes....

%100 Mexican climber here. I live in Portland, OR and have only seen one other border brother pulling down. Donde estas amigo?!!!

Anyways, yes climbers are mostly white or asian. At least what I have seen. All climbers are dorks. Don't deny it. Ask someone.

Have a good one too, Ricky. Tell Dawn I said "hey" and give Bear a pat on the head for me. Cheers!

i'm not white! and i'm not from the entitled social class we've been discussing. not at all. i grew up in poverty.

You're a fool and yet you think you're so smart by appearing compassionate. I'm not saying you're stupid, just foolish and naive. They've reeled you in and you don't even know it.

And if you're not white and "privaleged", then what are you exactly? You appear to be so.

I'm not saying I am privaleged, although I'm a proud whitey of Italian/Dutch descent. But I fail to see how ethnicity has anything to do with climbing. It takes little money (despite eveyone bitching how expensive it is) to climb. It just takes a will to do it.

Many don't have the desire or the will. Nothing wrong with that. It's a funky pursuit that many call crazy.

Because white dorks see climbing as a viable alternative to growing up while most other (dorks) have better sense.
