When I put up Touchstone and Monkeyfinger african americans were not permitted in the mormon priesthood.
That has changed but most the LDS followers still have a loooooooooong way to go.
They have become more sophisticated at sweeping the bigotry under the carpet.

Curiously, the Colorado City plygs have started marketing guided tours of the polygamous lifestyle.
No doubt they give a "young female" discounts,..

If the LDS church is indeed placeing ads here, I'm sending a scathing letter to the presiding bishopric.
My hard earned tithing money should not go to a website that caters to alchoholics, druggies, porn addicts, assault riflists and those who overstay their NPS permits

It's freedom of speech, so I really don't care. But its unusual for a church to pursue such an overt marketing campaign....on google ads no less.

Membership may not be down.
Church gets 10% (gross) of every good Mormon's earnings.
Economy is down.
Church coffers must be shrinking.
Yet their costs are probably pretty much fixed.
Describes the economic difficulties of a lot of us.
Maybe I should put ads on SuperTopo for my consulting business.

The ads are probably about you, not about Supertopo.
Like most sites, it is clear that Chris runs a mix of directly purchased ads (Smith, e.g.) and broker network ads. The broker ad networks run a mix - people buying low end remnant inventory and, more and more, ads that are targeted at particular users' demographics or behavior.
Right now, I'm seeing ads from Musician's Friend on Supertopo. They aren't targeting Supertopo users in general, they are targeting me. I was on the Musician's Friend site this morning. I'm now seeing ads on Supertopo featuring the product I looked at but didn't buy.
The ad networks buy space from sites all over the web. An ad buyer like Musician's Friend pays the network to show ads to people who've visited their site, and the network targets them wherever they can. It is a great deal for the networks. They pay for remnant space from publishers like Supertopo, but charge a lot for re-targeting. For eCommerce sites, it is worth a lot to target someone who _almost_ bought a product.
A new shopping strategy is to go to a site, put the thing you want in your shopping cart, and then leave the site. Wait a few days to see if you get any ads offering a discount on the product.

Locker - Yep.
The networks will pay high traffic sites to drop cookies on you, and then track where you go and what you do. They also do deals with ISPs, so that they can drop cookies on everyone who uses that ISP. They also drop cookies on you whenever one of their ads shows for you. More and more, they drop Flash LSOs (Locally Stored Objects), which are like cookies but don't get deleted when you clear cookies.
Online retailers can pay to retarget people who've visited their site. Or review sites for product they sell.
There are now online auction sites where you can buy ads to target people from California who've just looked at, say, automobile reviews within the last ten minutes.
