I've met several climbers with damaged or missing finger tips, from getting them caught in piton or bolt holes. Only one with a damaged thumb, from a saw.

Any photos of the thumb by itself. Or of the stump. I know... but I'd like to see 'em.

if you want to lose a thumb, give up climbing and take up wrangling. up and down the rio grande valley in texas, it's a mark of honor to have a thumb, finger or two missing.

+1 for what sempervirens said about never asking to see body parts on the internet again. Wow. Nothing to do now except hope for a speedy recovery.
