Thanks for the update and staying on top of it!
Our small cliff (the leap) has a closure, and I love watching the birds all summer. But to have that section of cliff closed till sept 31 seems a liitle overboard.

Bump, and to bring more intrigue to the thread...let me remind you all that Growing Up on the South Face of HD is now open. I know everyone is chomping at the bit for the first ground up all free ascent of that line!

as a further note on this, a pair of nesting peregrines took up residence on eagle roost buttress on williamson rock down here in the san gabriels for about the last four or five years that that crag was open. climbers gave them a wide berth when they acted territorial, and we all enjoyed their beauty and their antics. williamson got pretty busy, but we got along with the peregrines fine, at relatively close quarters.
the fact that williamson was closed (five years ago?), not because of the peregrines, but because of a tiny riparian population of the mountain yellow-legged frog a bit upstream, seem to indicate that either 1) the peregrine isn't that threatened to have been making a big issue out of climbers being around this pair, or 2) the land managers there were totally out to lunch about them.
or is there another explanation?

There's an area here in Northern Arizona with a nesting pair of uh.... Crows... yeah... that's it! Crows!
It's pretty awesome to see them flying around. the routes are close enough that in places like Yosemite they'd be closed. They don't seem to care about the climbers and the climbers certainly do appreciate the experience of seeing this marvelous bird.
Ah... but then again it is just a Crow out at Priest Draw. Crows are nice. And smart.
Dat's my story and I'm sticking to it.

The Yosemite website does not have an update for 2011.
In 2010, the closures began on March 1.
How do we find out what's going on?

I actually checked this thread before heading to Parkline Slabs last weekend, to see if there was any info. Nope.

I'm confused - is El Cap from SS/PO to Native Son closed until Aug1, or "until further notice"?
Thanks

Read the report people...
Their status is currently being evaluated nationwide as part of a 15 year monitoring program following their delisting in 1999 as part of the Endangered Species Act.
Does that mean that in 2014 all this Peregrine closure bullshit will come to an end? I don't know... But I'd like to think so.

I hardly think not climbing certain areas is a huge problem when it comes to peregrines. Simply adjust your schedule.

Yes, impacts are widespread but even small sacrifices on our part do help.
