A good decision, I'd say.

Maybe let the company know just how many cans, bottles, and plastic bottles we pick up during the FaceLift - and suggest they can be part of the solution by providing funding, but that we don't need their product.

it would have been harder if Miller Lite, Coors, or Budweiser had offered a sponsorship...
The nice people at Fat Tire were sponsors last year, and that would be hard to beat. Hopefully they'll sponsor again this year.

Also, just thinking here.....you could use the 20 grand to school people on the negative aspects of plastic water bottles.....as soon as you all post them for me. :D

I don't remember picking up many Fat Tire bottles,
but the three beers I named above are about 90% of the littered beer cans I've picked up in the past...

Not a bad idea, Ken, but let me roll with Ed's idea. Get miller, Bud, or King Cobra to sponser the thing!!!!!

All their sh#t is recyclable, man! And drinkable!

How about Sierra Nevada? Let's use our heads here.

I heartily support your decision, Ken. My wallet isn't particularly fat, but I'd happily give a little more to make up a bit of this.

Lynne, I think bottled water makes sense in many places (I don't know Valley Center, but Santa Barbara and Hanford both have awful-tasting tap water because of sulphur springs) -- particularly if the bottles are recycled.

I just don't see it for Yosemite Valley. While my own collections last year were mostly cigarette butts and snack wrappers, not plastic or glass bottles, there were enough of the water bottles to make me wish we all used a more premanent water container.

It always drives me crazy when people bring bottled water to Yosemite. The water in Yosemite is as good and usually better than any bottled water.

That said, if that's the business these guys are in, why shouldn't they pay to help pick up the waste that they are a part of? What conditions did they want to attach to the sponsorship. If the government offered $20,000 to sponsor it, I bet you'd take it and they make nukes and bomb countries. If folks are going to drink bottled water, might as well know which company is supporting the cause.

Cause no amount of sponsorship will make me buy a bottle of water unless I'm desparate. Maybe bought less than 5 bottles my whole life in the states (India, Thailand and China... another story)

Still, if your heart's in the right place ,it's bound to work out.

Peace

Nice call. 20,000 dollars is one heck of a tempting offer. I don't think I could have refused such an offer which is why I admire you.

I still don't get it. I recently spent three weeks on the road. I take H2O with me as I don't know what kind of H2O quality is available where I go. Or if it is even available. I gave someone who ran out of H2O a liter at the Sacherer Event. He was cool to give me a bottle of wine in return. You know who you are Dude. Thanks :D not necessary, but cool.

So are you saying that any type of litter left in Yo Valley is off the list for possible contributions ?

If thats the case, looks like the Marlboro and Trojan sponserships are nixxed.

I drink bottled water every day. Out of my nalgene bottle.

OLD STYLE, BPA leakage and all. What can I say, I live dangerously... hopefully I'll be impotent. Will sure keep me out of some Springer situations.

Good stuff, Ken.

Lynne, this video does a good job of explaining the whole story of bottled water:

You totally did the right thing. Disposable bottled water is an environmental menace when not recycled.

Nalgene user all the way.

I support it. It must have been a tough decision. $20K would have gone a long ways towards supporting your cause.
