Not a bad ass climber, Modest. You will be fine and have a great time. It's about the place almost more than the climb. 11 to 12 days of pure exposure. Sounds good. Once your on the rock youll be good to go.

I've used that tactic too. Told people that I was going to do xyz route this year, for sure, in order to keep my focus on the goal. It has worked sometimes, and other times I have learned to endure the humiliation!

Best of luck, Mark!

Ahhh, this is working well, the hole keeps getting deeper and deeper! Thanks a lot to everyone.

BTW, I'm such a weenie that my haul bags are all packed and sitting in the garage right now.

When are you planning to start the blessed event? El Cap Pics should be in YV in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to vicariously sharing your adventure. Send it!

The afternoon of Saturday or Sunday, the 29th or 30th of May.

I'm hoping that starting late in the day will help me avoid any Nose aspirants. A buddy (Bullet) is going to help me hump stuff to the base and then belay me till I get off the Nose. I'll fix to the top of Grape Race's first pitch (3rd pitch overall) and haul one bag that day. The next day we'll hump the rest of the stuff and I'll haul it to the top of the ropes and bivy right there. I'll spend the afternoon getting my gear ready, getting psyched and reveling the experience to come.

mark, you are in for the experience of a life time!
enjoy it as you deal with the suffering and the joy of solo wall.
back up everything and tie in twice and enjoy the ride.

i soloed zenyatta in 1995 after my divorce and it was an amazing, scary and very rewarding experience!!!

enjoy!

Thanks, Kurt.

It's going to be wild, fun and scary. I promised my wife and daughter that I won't die rock climbing so I'll be tied in all over the place.

I'm a punter, but to lend a bit of support to your program, I'll chime in and say that it (your chosen program) has worked well for me over the years.

Best of luck on the journey.

Mike,

I've thought of that but I'm fine with have help on the humping. If the first two pitches were anything else but the Nose and if I hadn't done them fifteen times I'd do it myself. As it is, I don't really mind that asterisk attached to the climb.
