Those are great ads by Chouinard/Patagonia. Awesome. I wish more companies were like TGPIW/Patagonia. Great philosophy. Still haven't read Chouinard's book yet, Let My People Go Surfing, but it is in my Amazon wish list.

Welcome Chris Jones!

I read your book, Climbing in North America, in HS, cover to cover many times. My HS library, Poway High School, had a copy of this text thanks to the inspiration of the Poway Mtn. Boys convincing the librarian to purchase it and many other great mountaineering books. Apparently as the story goes, one of their mothers was the librarian. I believe that story was related here on ST by one of the PMBs. Great book. Provided many dreams for me to chase. Thank you.

It was good to see Chouinard and hear his unique voice,
to see an intelligent spirit at his craft...

Even he must have chuckled, though, in retrospect, at his
comment that "he invented" this little thing that goes into
the crack... We know what he meant, and no one minded really,
because it's Yvon, who we all respect, but perhaps more
accurate would have been that he and Frost produced
and developed the state of the art nut technology... while
Brown and company were using nuts (and "invented" their
use) decades earlier in England...

A nice ad, though, and a nice message, for a mainstream audience.

Welcome Chris!

ST is a very mixed bag, which of course, is its strength.

Since we last talked, (in the 60's?) I have become much more pessimistic.

In the long term, it now does not look hopeful.
