I don't think you can pull skulls out of fractals. So, yeah, it is PS.

I would prefer it if he had shopped in a bunch of titties.

My graduate work was in Dynamical Systems so I did a bunch of work with Chaos Theory and fractal generators, etc. One of my professors (and a friend) was Dr Rudy Rucker who was an interesting mathematician, sci-fi writer and mathematical conceptualist. It all came from WAY too much acid!

Anyone read any of his books?

"It all came from WAY to much acid!"

I vaguely remember one of my best friends using that theory to explain to the security guards, why I was splayed out on the cement in the middle of a shopping mall one very crowded Saturday afternoon...admiring the beauty of a flower box full of Pansy's and muttering Wow...WOW!(BITD of course).

Yeah Minerals my Fractal Generator is in the KPT plug-in package for Photoshop. I'm currently running CS3. You can do titties as well folks if you are so inclined...Here's a piece that has some fractal geometry used in the photo-manipulation.

Is that a purple platypus below the melting clock or am I having a flashback?

Maybe someone who actually knows what they're talking about with math, physics and surfing could explain this one and its significance:

I do have to say that some of my work has been inspired by illicit chemicals I might have ingested at some point in my life...

healyj,
your top picture is of a Lie group:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lie_group

I only recognized it and no little of the math behind it, maybe other people around here can fill it the details. The E8 variation came up a few years ago as a possible form of the Universal Field Theory, as postulated by an unemplyoed surfer phyicist, I think there was a thread about that some time ago. They are pretty, and it would be cool if the universe was a nice closed form like that.

EDIT: Ah, I just reread your post, and you already know what I posted, my bad.

No problem - I know of it, but know nothing about it. Was hoping one of our Illuminati could explain it to us in caveman terms.

I also would like to thank you folks for the praise...If you ever see something that really gets your attention from all my stuff e-mail me and I'll send you a print...You can also view a larger body of my work at: http://mikepaul1.deviantart.com When you check my gallery choose browse as opposed to featured, I've yet to get back in there to re-organize my gallery...I'll do it tomorrow...Also you have to register to view any with adult content "Base104?" I think 2 of my 171 pieces there are blocked to normal viewing, but really only R rated...Peace!
edit:I found this one of mine as well that is from a part of the Mandelbrot set and kind of looks like taffy that has mutated...

Bump for Watusi's great art and for Ed or one of the other wizards to explain E8.

Here's another one that is not a fractal. Can't recall the function I used, but I'd like to see others that are function-based but not the popular fractal designs.

That last piece by Escher would be cool reworked as climbers on cracks/faces.

Maybe...
