Cragman,
When you get back from down south, and after the big dump you will have to punch out the trail to Horsetail again. I don't want to have to do it,

Sorry to hear about Pete. That must have been shocking for all.
Thanks for getting out there in spite of your leg and sending current pics. A (dis?)service to us all. Now I'm going to be lusting impotently over that ice for the rest of the day.

I climbed road side and Lee Vining before the storm. We were the only one's there mid week.
Interestingly we talked to the local guy from PG&E. He said that ice from Lee Vining Canyon never came from the pipe line. It is metal, above ground and it does not leak. The ice in the canyon is only formed from Sierra run off. Since we have had low snow pack years, the Bard Harrington and other ice climbs are not forming up.
The rumors I had heard all these years are false according to The Man.
Sorry to hear about Pete, he sounds like a true adventure hero.

Good shots of Pap Smear Dean. You're right in that this Friday, Jan. 29, at 12:02
it will have been 14 years since the curtain and pillar snapped on Pete. A Day I can't
forget. If i recall you were watching it all thru the spotting scope.

Although I didnt know Pete as well as you guys were fortunate enough to have known him I consider myself lucky to have spent some quality time with him and his family. Pete was one of those guys who flew under the adventure radar but could out climb, out ski and out boat most professional athletes. It was great to ski and kayak with Pete because he always made you feel like you were doing better than you really were. I will say however he was a bit of a seat of the pants kayaker and relied a lot on luck rather than skill when it came to steep creeks.
I still remember the phone call from Maureen telling me about Pete and the gut punch I felt. I prefer to over power those feelings with the memories of climbing and skiing with Pete, the memories of kayaking with Pete are to nerve racking and I prefer to forget those. ;) Miss you Pete.
