Janet Jackson!

EDIT: Inside joke.

EDIT EDIT: It took me three hours to lead through the Kor Roof. I know, I know. That's just plain irresponsible. But, it was the second aid pitch I had ever led, I wanted to do it, and it was dusk when I set off, so interest from the dozen other people on Dinner Ledge that night was minimal (or pretend minimal...I'm not sure which). To encourage me, someone plugged my iPod into speakers, which was very fun.

Once I got through the bolts, placed the blind .4 (I think it was) and pulled myself up over the roof, it was already dark. The 12 men who were watching and partying below, obviously entertained by my struggles and suggestive grunts, became quiet as I turned into no more than a flickering, focused beam of light on the wall above.

I was enjoying myself quite a bit without their commentary, in the calm restricted reality of only that which was illuminated by my headlamp.

Then Janet Jackson came over the speakers. It was a REALLY girlie song, which I like. The chorus is something like, "Hold me, don't ever let me go, say it just one time...say you love me." And from the group below came a few, "What IS this crap???" I guess they thought I couldn't hear them lambasting my music selection...

Poor Janet, with no one there to defend her. At this point, I think a few of the dirtbags, boyfriend included, were a little nervous at how long it was taking me and wondered if I would finish, not kill myself in the darkness, etc. So, when I yelled down that it was Janet Jackson, some were expecting/listening for a cry for help. When they didn't understand what I had said, there were nervous shhhhs and then silence. Mucci shouted back up, "What???" Again I yelled, "JANET JACKSON!" Once they understood, there were quite a few laughs...of relief and the scene itself was pretty amusing: A dozen dirtbag climbers, on Dinner Ledge to party, forced to take a three-hour long course in girlie classics.

Thanks for the photo, Mucci. Classic.

Also, the dog was alive! In the first photo below, taken earlier in the day (you can tell by the shadow of the tent), the dog's front left paw is behind the right one. In the later photo (the shadow approached the dog as the sun set), the left front paw is on top of the right one, proving he had moved (or been moved, but let's not go there...).

Ally,

Impressive - exactly how many thrads did you attempt to hijack?

Perhaps a little more climbing and a little less schooling might be in order!

Drc,

Yo I'm off to the valley friday for a week plus...Still bitter about hauling the beers hugh?

love you both

Yos- glad you got a good summer in before the grind. I bookended law school with trips to SA, Patagonia the winter before I started and then Peru when I was done. I actually studied for the bar in Peru; a friend and I went to a town with an awesome left point and surfed all morning and then studied all afternoon. We just brought all of our bar review crap down there with us. I recommend doing something similar, I actually have fond memories of studying for the bar. Well, fond memories of the waves at least.

After the bar my (now) wife and I went back down to Boliva and Peru (one of the airlines was doing SFO-Lima flights for like $300). Such amazing places.

You should do an internship in the USDC for the ED of CA in YNP!

That's Janet Jackson!!!

EDIT: Inside joke.

Sounds like it could be an outside joke, too.

Very nice dog in the landscape and other pictures. Now get back to studying. A friend in law at Chicago could always tell you to the day how much time he had left in school.

That inert dog has charisma if not fleas!

Looks like adventures were had. Telling stories would multiply the procrastination power.

But since I'm procrastinating too ... summer sunsets from the left and right coasts:

Hawaii and Oahu this summer with the family at a mega resort.

Sequoia High Sierra luxury tent cabins and 5 star meals.

Camping with my family.

Saline Valley in June

More climbing and exploring.

And spending time with the with my wonderful family. Even if it means playing the tourist.

Yosguns,

I hear you about law school finals; I'm gearing up for another go-round right now.

I recommend using the "help! I fell in the gym!" threads on RC.com to study for torts, and the access fund threads to study for property.

At least I get one last hurrah at the Gunks this weekend before crap really hits the fan though...

drljefe, shouldn't that be a downward facing dog?

Quasimodo, that's beautiful. How did you take/make that? Looks almost alien...

Yosguns, I recognize a bunch of those dirtbags. Nice to see you had a good summer.

I met you once at one of Kev's parties. Maybe next next year kev will coax you and Vic out to the Shuteye. Nice place.

Climbed with Mucci finally last weekend on some short sandstone stuff. Good time though!

Kev, I always climb with that dude, not as much as he'd like, but I got a kid now. Makes it harder to get into kev-territory.

Thanks....the rock glow was real...I was lucky to have just rapped down to the ground.

Photo Tech-weenie Photo Notes
1) underexposed by two stops
2) slight contrast increase for glowing rock to bring out rock glow and rock texture
