Conservatives see themselves and everyone else as basically selfish. Since we see ourselves that way, we don’t hold it against others when we see them that way as well. Liberals are doing their selfish thing and that is cool with us as long as they leave us alone to do our selfish thing.

At least this guy realizes one of the main problems with conservatives, seflishness. However don't conservatives accuse Libs of being bleeding hearts? Are they selfish or bleeding hearts?

Some libs are too bleeding heart.

That's they key. Conservatives are too selfish. Libs can be too bleeding hearted. As a centrist I believe in balance. Greed is good, but so is generosity. That's why I end up siding with the Libs and left of center folks usually though. I'd rather be too generous than too selfish.

A Sarah quote

A true American savant. Such breadth of knowledge and compassion for her fellow citizens. Why she didn't win the election I'll never know.

Some more exciting examples of her brain power:

-"Well, let's see. There's -- of course -- in the great history of America rulings there have been rulings." when asked what supreme court rulings she agrees with.

-"Nucular"

-"'Refudiate,' 'misunderestimate,' 'wee-wee'd up.' English is a living language. Shakespeare liked to coin new words too. Got to celebrate it!'" --a follow-up Tweet by Sarah Palin, proudly mistaking her illiteracy for literary genius, July 18, 2010

-"Go back to what our founders and our founding documents meant -- they're quite clear -- that we would create law based on the God of the bible and the Ten Commandments." –-Sarah Palin, arguing that Judeo-Christian belief was the basis for American law and should continue to be used as a guiding force for creating future legislation, interview with Bill O'Reilly, May 6, 2010

good advise in the target rich environment

Not so sure that makes grammatical sense. I'll let you figure out why. In the meantime, we can let it stand as another example of the brilliance inherent in the conservative electoral base.

Are you implying some sort of violence is a solution to whatever problems you perceive are Obama's fault? You do understand that's what Palin is implying with her quote? I thought you said earlier that you cons were not the violent side of the debate...

"Nucular"

That's how President Carter pronounces it. He served on a "Nucular" sub, didn't he?

Right you are RJ! The big difference between Germany and us is that they
make things the rest of the world is willing to pay good money for. The
only things we make that the world wants are Boeing jets, movies, and
World of Warcraft all of which come up about $65 billion a month short of
balancing the books*. Germany comes in at $17.5 billion a month on the plus side.
That'll pay for a lot of unemployment benefits, if they had
any unemployed that didn't want to be unemployed.

*trade deficit books, that is.

Germany had much worse economic performance than the US for many years until our last recession. Japan had similar problems.

I agree that European-style social welfare systems can work when countries have relatively homogenous populations and high output. The problem is that they don't work so well when either of those two requirements is missing -- or when the population declines, because the Ponzi scheme built into those systems fails.

jghedge,
It works in Germany because they have engineering excellence and manufacturing
efficiency. The similar social safety net systems in place in Italy, France,
and Britain ain't workin' so good without the largesse provided by a
robust trade surplus.

They've got to install some sort of missile defense for Europe because of
Iran.

It'll help nullify any threats by the Iranians to launch retaliatory
strikes.

And it'll pump billions into US defense industries.
