Just because I love this version, and K. D. Lang's, almost as much.

I think this is the very best version, but I am open to suggestions.

Leonard Cohen, London, redux

My intro to Leonard must have been around 1967 with this one, which he did at the Isle of Wight. Sheeeit, I didn't even know he played there and me I wasn't there to hear it anyway.

He has, as ff points out, stood the test of time.

Mouse, you got it.
Listen at about 6:06
I think he is in London.

Personally, I prefer my MGB. But of course it is not a year-round car in Montana. Or most places. But fun.

The rest of the time, I drive a good old Honda. 13 years old, actually, But the MG is 36 years old. So the Honda is young.

No matter what you drive
Or how you jive
The secret to bein' alive
Is just to strive
To have fun
And not to step on your partner's feet

Heavy Cat Buckley. The Lord's Lord.[Click to View YouTube Video]I remember this swingin', non-singin', bell-ringin', Buckley doin' his thing in

1968!!!!

On the air from KSAN, the first underground FM in the land.

He beat the band and then Tom Donahue would give us some Canned.

Canned Heat, that is--so sweet--goin' up to the Yo Country for a weekend away from the fleet.

On the road without Jack.[Click to View YouTube Video]
Together we stood, the US Navy, every man Jack of us.
"I call shotgun!"
"But I got the stash, Mouse."
"Well, let's work together on this. I'll roll 'em in the back seat."
"Dig it! We can switch off at Modesto or Turlock."
We usually drove through Merced on Friday nights, see...
the highway beyond Groveland sucked big ones.

And more weed.
We were freed!

A long set, Fillmore-worthy.
All this weekend thumbing to Merced, getting a shore party together to invade the Ditch, meeting the indigenous freaks called rock climbers sort of primed me for what came immediately following the military experience--a long summer and winter filled with more of the same, but as a free man, not a part of the machine.

I'll close the set with a poetry reading from one of our own.

Ahem...

lots of focus on time around these parts lately.
our warriors travellin paths in beautiful motion, though hastily.

so in response,
i got up from my seat and departed the now,
for gawd im always aggresively pursuing that disaster of presence;

and i strolled away from my understanding,
away from my self,

and i explored the echos
that constantly chase me down the hallways of my life.

well, i found all these doors adjoining my thoroughfare of existence
and each one i opened, and peered fearfully into the spiritual closets.

you wanna know me?

read on.

im perfection and disaster in the same shoe.
ambition is mine, though so is surrender.
accomplishment? plenty!
failure? not immediately apparent though strongly present.

hope is mine, paramount. death is my halo, inviting.
fear is soul food.
comfort is poison.
clarity becomes of my mental complacency;
confusion becons my idle mind.

sorrow moves me.
happiness is foolish.

well-being is elusive,
the pursuit of which,
is life.

illness nourishes my ailing heart,
such that it beats upon a dynamic lie.

i love what might be,
i hate what is.

i do.
i do not be.

the mountains, i have found,
echo best my shouts
and have proven themeselves
as a most product unravelling realm.

From a limited wartime budget of $5,000, Hollywood managed to produce some Stormy Weather.

Fats Waller and Ada "Z" Brown get down at Beale St.[Click to View YouTube Video]

That might, I hope, whet your appetites for the rest of the film, which follows Bill "Bojangles" Robinson from his return from Europe as a soldier to his big date with fame.

STORMY WEATHER/1943

Starring, among others, the immortal Lena Horne.

I gots ta say, to neebee, my sister's name is Lenna, like in Leonard, out Grandad, not Lena.

That's horseshoes talk: A lena is worth two points; a Lenna is worth a solid six at least!

I wish we were having stormy weather.
If we get no rain, there's goina be some parched farms, man.[Click to View YouTube Video]
