"did you hear all those words? maybe i just love myself?"
Beverley was in the lineup at the 1967 Monterey Pop festival, before she became Beverley Martyn.
It was an amazing time, and there were many important performances there... I think the performers were as blown away with each other as the crowds were, and perhaps more so... the scene in Pennebacker's documentary of "Moma" Cass Elliot mouthing "WOW!" during Janis Joplin's Ball and Chain said it all. And as much a guitar virtuoso as Jimi was, his rapt attention to Ravi Shankar spoke of true virtuosity, and what might be possible after years and years of practice... sad to think what Jimi might have been at Ravi's age, but to die only three years later.
But if anything, we are still addressing issues that performers like Beverley wrote about then, and I remind you that is 50 years ago... her performance didn't make the documentary, and neither did Laura Nyro's, perhaps they did not fit into the context of women performers of the time, Grace Slick and Janis did...

less production is more, sometimes, I like her "acoustical" voice much more than the "electronic" one
