These are from yesterday.

So is this one.

//For five days and four nights John Salathe (“Top”) and Anton Nelson (“Red Cap”) clung to the sheer face, one of America’s severest climbs. During daylight they inched their way up; at night they bivouacked on tiny ledges, tying themselves to iron spikes driven into fissures [experto credite]. Buffeted by cold winds, racked by thirst, and barely sustained by raisins, dates, and nuts, they achieved the summit after 103 hours of climbing, on September 3, 1947. they were the first to climb from the base of the spire to the peak.

Yosemite Falls trail zigzags through the trees at upper left.//

Phenominal output there mousie. It makes a fella wonder where his efforts should be expended.

Budgeting must be the key - I suppose.

I finally read this epic from page 1 until now - and I have to say with all seriousness that this experience has brought about more flashbacks than I thought possible given that I only took Owsley's finest about 25 times.

Note to newbies - if you wish to gorge on Mouse's feast of funk by daring to click on the Show All link - at the least, get really high on some good Indica and cue up the Dead's American Beauty album on slow repeat.

"Oh, Little Big Man! You look tired Little Big Man. Would you like to come in my teepee and rest on soft furs? Come and live with me and I'll be your wife!"--Little Horse

"Grant me the power to make things jump and boogie around here. It is a good day to fry. Are you hungry for some catfish, my son? She Throws Hard Rights has a way with those whiskered water persons that makes me want to have more than is good for me."--Old Likes Skin

The Band at Mel's was Mike Hammar and the Nails, professionals from Merced, Winton, Atwater, and Mariposa.
[Click to View YouTube Video]The Drummer for the Nails, Greg Merino, is the brother of the Jazz Drummmer, Rudy Merino, who owned the Partisan Bar before it was called that. It used to be known as Rudy's. Before that the Trail's End.

zBrown, we amigos have come full circle, seemingly, from the FNPWD epic last year, where the Partisan was first seen here on the pages of the Taco.

From the Partisan Bar to Mel's Old West may not seem like a circle, but it's metaphor for, for the past few years, Mel Pruitt has had health troubles and has had to forego the celebration of Juneteenth. (You know Juneteenth could have been any date ranging from June 13 to June 19 and it wouldn't have made any difference, it's still gonna be celebrated.)

YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT JUNETEENTH, DO YOU?!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VReHM4pXwFA

The Nails played part of the last set with Kenny Craig of the Merced Blue Notes singing and on sax. Mellow!

Mel Pruitt hails from a town near Grambling, LA, and his fish frys are like a Planada homecoming without the Latin flavor, if you can dig it.

The Flames has become like "a didactic film, one that seeks to help the noobs avoid the pitfalls of avoiding contact with someone who cares about you..." (MFM, A Base Jump in 1938? Off Yosemite Falls?), it seems on reflecting on that comment.

You might want to use these folks for your photo finishes. I have a pair of Winstead's binoculars that have held up handsomely over the years ("triple tested coated optics", whatever that means. Remind myself to Google that one).

The Camargue is a land of cowboys and gypsies.

It's vaguely close, nominally near to Corsica, island of our Gypsy.

Happy Father's Day, Mom.

I think it has something to do with being Finnish.

More than a quarter mile or a quarter furlong. Time is, afterall, precious.

3/5 of a mile in 10 seconds is a good time. I don't think either Tom The Mongoose or Don The Snake could touch it. This is a car club thread right?

Where do the freeways collide? Depends on which, but if you're talking Harbor, 91, 405 freeways it's Ascot Park.

I'd always thought it was "stop children what's that sound?", but this just testifies to the frailty of memory. Still checking on women's frailty, what a long strange trip it' been.

Don't think I will ever be a father. Can remember a whole bunch of times when I discovered that I wasn't and was quite pleased with that.

Well, I spose I could donate a few cells to be kept in Ted Williams head crypt, so I'm not ruling anyting out.

Put on the brakes, you're goin' too fast.
There are too few breaks, better make them last.

Then, Grasshopper, there was the one about the Japanese beetle and the fly, which is best told on the fly, since everyone who hears it seems to become "sick." My lips are sealed, but keep your eyes open.

Flying is a standard dream of mine.
Often with no sound.

The song, On the Banks of the Old Merced, has been around for longer than I.

Written by state Sen. George Juan Hatfield of Stevinson, this beautiful song was composed in 1945 at Stevinson Ranch, where the Merced River and San Joaquin River meet.

I just received a vibe (call it a warning) that we need climbing content.

El Jefe leads the charge.

Freedom of the Hills!

I'm guessing 1974, Mt. Hoffman, and Dick E.

Triple tested coated optics may simply mean the quality of a lens has been tested by three different quality control agents before they are approved for use in optical illusions.

This was taken last nite. The rest were taken early this morning.this fire is around Jerseydale, above Hite Cove, or maybe further to the west of there, like on Sweetwater Point and down south of there around about Bootjack.

It might not interrupt Yosemite traffic, because the wind is blowing to the south of Hwy 140.

It is remarkably clear here in the central valley today, and here is the proof.

Not the smoke I had in mind to share earlier...
Big Meadow and Foresta, vivid memories of them both before and after '89.
This is Ron Anderson speaking. I don't know what's going on this week.

This is Tad Hocking speaking. I know what's going on this week, but don't know if you are going to be involved.

This is Mouse from Merced squeaking. I would gladly take anyone who wants to join us on Tom's Thumb this weekend from the central valley to Redding where the 4x4 awaits at Tad's.

This offer is good whether or not Ron can join us.

I won't be out of here till early Friday morning.

If interested in a good time climbing five-easy, PM me or call 209-722-7134. I have room for one. Please, no hate calls...
