Bivouac Baby or, How To Really Listen To Your Mate
(with apologies to David Yohollam)

The night was cold.

It was dark, too, like it always is; but not Stormy, who is as fair as a natural blonde can be and as warm as any woman should be.

She was on my left side. (Stormy claimed she was "a bit deaf" in her left ear, but she never responded, so-o-o I figured she was not exaggerating.) I spoke not a word and I'm pretty sure she wasn't listening anyway.

We were just sitting there, comfortable, our four legs splayed out on the small platform high above the things and places and people below, our shoeses unlaced, glad for the companionable JUST BEING WHERE WE WERE NOW right THEN.

Quite a lot later, when the stars had wheeled around to the right, some rocks let go in the direction of Half Dome and fell to the ground, echoing a while through the canyon. It made A PRETTY GOOD RACKET, but Stormy had not awakened, though I was roused.

I stood carefully, checked both our tie-ins, and heaved it out and peed robustly, watching the arc steepening as it gathered speed, sending it a bit higher.

From behind me, Stormy's headlamp beam suddenly began making it a water/gravity show worthy of a small-town Vegas. She began laughing, then said, "Gotcha, RopeBum! Hey, did that rockslide wake you up, too? That was a good one. Want some water? How about one of these Werther's? Or a watermelon Jolly Rancher?"

And the sun came up soon, it got lots warmer, and she led the way over to the creek and all the way down to 4.

I'll always love early October in the Valley because of Stormy Werther.

Hiya, Dave. I was not much better. But at least I GOT A JOB!

It was down to 30 degrees at two a.m. on the porch. The wheelbarrow's surface froze over.

Californy winters are so-o-o miserable.😎

Blew off my VA Clinic visit (too early, too cold, no need for an alpine start, blah-blah-blah).

Really, though, I lost track of the time talking about the State of the Onion and playing "he lied here and totally misdirected there" and then I remembered about my underwater photography lesson.

I won it in an uncontested contest that I ran which no one bothered to enter so I won by defaulft. The "lesson" I learned in class today?

That water's awfully cold.

And here's what I did in Watercolor Class just now.
So bright out there that I had trouble focusing. The autofocus on all my lenses are not snapping pix as they focus, leading me to think I need to clean the contacts on the camera body. Hmmm...how to, etc.

FYI Page

For your information, there are 715 Thread Topics which use the word "fall" or variation of the word in the ST archive.

Doesn't appear to be a busy place but it's just a digital locale, so...

Back to what I found.

Seems odd that in over 15 years the word "fall" was not used in a thread title on a rock climbing forum. Superstitious much? or nobody falls?

The wheel is turning and you can't slow down,
You can't let go and you can't hold on,
You can't go back and you can't stand still,
If the falling doesn't get you then the drowning will.

I fell into a one-foot puddle of ice water in the parking lot and was so drunk I thought it was a burning ring of fire.

I have never fallen into a burning campfire but watched Cox and Meyers battling in a C4 fire ring burning to coals.

They were both falling down drunk and never felt it.

The night of my wedding celebration.

a picture as good that had the attribution it did should not have been lost
it resides in a thread that is worthy of a walup,
but I preferred to pilfer the poorly exposed,
then expose it and post it instead
