Unlike Westworld that the bots are pure A.I.

Ghost in the Shell has a human brain!

The next step would be switching out a brain with a brain dead body?

Would you want to?

Man was made to lead with his chin; he is worth knowing only with his guard down, his head up and his heart rampant on his sleeve.

Wayno,

I guess anything that’s rushed would not be what I was thinking of. I think rushing would imply a commercial kitchen.

I’ve been a pots and pans washer for a Tibetan meditation center, and there it was more about being silent rather than rushed (even though we were cooking for 30-45). Here at home we gravitate toward many foods that rely upon fermentation because they seem to require an artistic or intuitive touch. It seems the best foods are still alive. Ug, . . . doesn’t sound good, does it?

Food is good. I have a genetic disposition for it if there is such a thing. I had made it my chosen field of endeavor for a long time. My views have changed and i find myself going back to simple, time honored techniques so yeah, I like fermentation. Science and Art and Spirituality can meet on one plane and exist for the benefit of all involved.

That is a trick question my friend. I have an answer but I won't say.

Kwan explains the big difference between temple cuisine and everything else: “Secular food is focused on creating dynamic energy. But temple food keeps a person’s mind calm and static.” To keep that balance, Kwan does not cook with garlic, onions, scallions, chives, or leeks. She notes: “Those five spices are sources of spiritual energy, but too much of that energy will prevent a monk’s spirit from achieving a state of calmness. This is a distraction to meditation.”

An ancient master once said something to the effect of it is not what goes into your mouth that makes you Holy but rather what comes out.

Does this make sense?

Oh for Fuks sake!

All these quotes, cliches, and flowery words.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

There was a master who met an angry man in the village.

The angry man asked the master how he could cure his anger.

After instructing the angry man how to do it the master left the village.

A few years later the master showed up in the village once again (you already knew this was gonna happen) heh heh

The angry man told the master his anger was completely cured and in full control.

The cured angry man invited the master to dinner at his house.

The whole family and some friends were having dinner with the master when suddenly the master said some insult to the curred angry man's wife.

The wife was shocked but blew it off.

The master then said insults to the cured angry man.

The cured angry man blew it off and smiled thinking he heard wrong.

The master started insulting everyone at the diner more and more.

The cured angry man suddenly lost it and started screaming profanities at the master and got very angry.

The cured angry man told the master he's no master and a poser, fake and loser and every other name in the book.

lol

The cured angry man screamed get out of my house you aszhole.

As the master was leaving he said I may or not be a master and all those things you said may or may not be true .....

but why are YOU angry? ........ :-)

(I get the principle, but cooking without garlic or onions? Yikes!)

MikeL my wife is 100% Italian, garlic and onions clots our blood!

If all you did was just look for things to appreciate you would live a joyous, spectacular life. If there was nothing else that you ever came to understand other than just look for things to appreciate, it’s the only tool you would ever need to predominantly hook you up with who you really are. That’s all you’d need.

The no garlic and onion idea started in India as did most ideas found in Asian religions. The ultimate of this is yogis who eat only nuts and fruits that have already fallen off the tree which is the ultimate in ahimsa - harmlessness. Of course that is only possible in a tropical climate.

"pets are animals that don't taste good"

Gonna get me some Tea Smoked Duck.

I discovered that those pretty white flowers that are blooming all over my yard are not just some bulb. It is garlic. Fennel and garlic grow wild around here and it is the suburbs. It used to be called Garlic Gulch back when it was mostly Italians living here. That was a long time ago.

The greens are delicious in a salad.

What does this have to do with mind?

Everything under the sun.

I could live happily without a lot of what is called technology.

Except refrigeration of course. Freshness counts, especially with mind and mind food. But nobody needs fresh asparagus all year round.

John G., back to your mindfood question. I am reminded of a theory by the late anthropologist Terrance McKenna that brain development pertaining to advanced language capabilities might be tied to the ingesting of hallucinogenic mushrooms. Not a popular theory among the academics in his field. It worked for me.

Okay, all of this blather is kind of fun, but let's get make to the central question...what the fricking snakes-on-a-mother-f#king plane is mind?

My money is on it being the brain's experiencing of the operation of a relatively highly-evolved part of the human brain -- the interpreter, as defined by Michael Gazzaniga. It fits all of the facts that I know of. My aspiration on this thread has always been to come up with an answer that could clearly be stated in a short paragraph. Two sentences is better than I could have hoped for.
