The original point of "its not that easy", 20:1 ratio be dammed, is TRUE, guys. Now, I have no lack of climbing partners (most of the female, attached guy, young undergrad, and gay guy variety... Yup, they exist!), but I was more-or-less single for 4 years, and heading to the mountains/rivers/ski slopes pretty much every damn weekend. You'd a thunk I'd have met lots of interested (and interesting), single guys.
Oh, and in the past, I've *always* dated guys less outdoorsy than me. Guess what? It didn't work - they hated it when I would go away to the mountains for the weekend instead of hanging with them. HATED it.
Hence: it's not as easy as you guys think for us. Oh, and btw, I have LOTS of female friends with the same problem. In fact, in my group of climber friends, the *single* FEMALES outnumber the MALES, big time! Whats up with that? I guess the dudes date non-climbers, and the dudettes don't.

"The significance of stating Single Female in the OP is that often non-single guys significant other has a giant problem with "their guy" off spending time with "climber chick".
Partners who could cause awkwardness one on one are safe if part of a small group. This is another reason why having a network is better than one special single partner.
Even if you find a single guy he won't stay single for long, which I guess only supports what Susan said in the OP. So 200 posts into this thread I agree with the OP not that its been explained. But I do not agree that finding a single guy is the solution.

That might work D, but with the Chromosome Lottery™ checklist you're runnin' there (blue eyes, 6'9", morton's toe, etc), I think the pool's gonna be pretty small?

I just saw your post kellie.
Based on my interpretations of things that you've posed over the years, I'd guess that your fairly hard-core beginnings were a. not typical of most women starting out and b. saw you move past beginner pretty quickly. I'm not surprised that a local hard woman would want to climb with you as you were learning and moving towards being her equal although it's cool that she didn't get threatened by it and you are still friends/partners.
My list was in fun. It was a generalization based on what I usually see, but not the laws of the universe.

"The gals I am referring to are happy to drive long hours, pay, hump gear, buy gear, get dirty, hike down in the dark, be cold at belays, travel to exotic destinations, travel to local sh#t-holes, bivy in the dirt, lead routes, swing leads, belay endless hours for FA's, step aside the red point, make hero leads, climb the wide, use their favorite Prana tops for topo notes, get up crack-o-dawn and quite possibly would do all the cooking and cleaning to boot."
Ah yes, Sooze, you HAVE met Nurse Ratchet! And, yes, these are some of her most endearing qualities.
Sorry guys, she is most definitely taken.
Brutus, who is also trying to figure out that eggs-in-a-basket thing.

Supertopo Speed Dating!
C'mon, I tried to get Fattrad to set something up earlier, but alas, had to settle for a Pity Party. Which turned into a Speed Dating event, happily ;)

Melissa, Yeah, I understand it was a fun list, I was just interested to see how far down the list that particular relationship was.
There's no doubt in my mind that I lucked out in climbing with someone who was willing to "grow their own partner," and who wasn't into sport climbing. I also definitely wasn't typical of most women starting out in that I was in my thirties.

Props to Susan for starting this historic thread. We've come close before, but never really got there:
This thread has to have the most active participation by women (not counting creepy tranny avatars) of any thread ever on ST, at least in the four or so years I've been here.
And weirdly, the post quality has held pretty steady.
Let's have more.

I don't think I'd have to tell Fred anything.
At #2 the likelihood of finding a nice match w/ such a partner was high. And, to my limited knowledge, I think that Fred does enjoy the company of the younger ladies on the rock and they him.
If the sexual energy goes beyond a leer or a wink, well, that bumps him into my revised category #1.
