So, the draw to COR is too strong to ignore! Our timing will be a little off from "the Group" but we will overlap.
John & I will be coming down from Seattle for a little climbing, arriving the 18th and leaving around the 25th or so.
If anyone has room for us please drop us a line so we can mooch on your turf. Oh, we will contribute to the costs as well! Thanks, Rich

Woo Hoo! Finally heading out now... my work delayed me for a day, and a few plan shifts made a new itinerary: Zion, Bryce (astronomy fest), Escalante slot canyons and waterfalls, petrified forest, Anasazi, Canyonlands and Arches, a tour of Temple Square and checking out one of the biggest organs in the world in an acoustically awesome place. Rockin' with the Mormons yes! Then some fossil hunting in Wyoming and Bear Lake and that should lead to nice experience-based discussions of creationism vs. geology and evolution with the kids....
THEN we will be rockin' out with y'all in City of Rocks. I think we'll get there Tuesday evening and stay until Friday.

The weather forecast shows sunny weather with slightly above average temperatures. It would seem that early starts in cooler temperatures will be necessary to assure that a respectable number of pitches will be climbed by this virtuoso gathering.
Unfortunately, this means that nights of unbridled rivalry accompanied by copious amounts of adult beverages need to be drastically curtailed.
It might be prudent to adjust inventories to include a higher proportion of non alcoholi!c, high electrolyte beverages.
The local Mormons will be unaware, but grateful, that global warming, a concept they don't endorse, will have brought an invading horde of ,mostly secular, climbers more in line with them.

NutAgain,
Your itinerary sounds fantastic -- what a grrrrreat dad you are. Have fun!
PS Jim, thanks for weather alert. I'm bringing some non-alcoholic libations for the campfire. Might be good if everyone brings several gallons of personal drinking water or extra jugs to fill up at the pump near Breadloaves.

Thanks Em! We should hardened denizens of the southwest by the time we see you.
Jim, you are off base on the strategy for climber drinkers. Best bet is wake up at sunset, climb some pitches, night-long revelry, climb at sunrise for a few hours, then 10 hour siesta.
I won't be following that strategy since I'm not much of a drinker... But it would be the logical method for those with the proclivities. I do have about 13 gallons of water in the car with me.
Glad we're not gathering in Baker, Ca:

Sorry to see that Mark & Moosedrool can't make the gathering. Since we have an over-load of folks for the last night, we are not accepting last-minute campers.

Here's an update from my end as of June 18th.
The weather forecast is looking very good with highs in the high 70's to low 80's. Please bring rainwear, so it won't rain.
We are planning on City of Rocks, nights of Sunday June 21 - Thursday June 25, checkout Friday June 26. We have the same camp spot as last year, at Twin Sisters, reserved (Twin Sisters Group Camp).
Our campground is somewhat short on level tent spots, but has lots of parking, a Deluxe shitter, 2 picnic tables, & a nice firepit.
No cellphone or internet access, & no water, except what we bring in, & no garbage service.
Camping expenses. I won’t know exactly until I get a final head count by night, but I will be asking for about $17.50 per camper for 5 nights, or $3.50 per night.
We have attendees sponsoring dinners, with others adding on H'ordeuvres & fine beverages before, or with the meal. Donations are accepted to help defray expenses.
Currently we are thinking:
1. Pat's turkey chili, green salad, bread Sunday night Sponsored by Jim, Angela, Jack & Pat.
2. Riblet & salads, bread. Fritz, Heidi & helpers
3. Spaghetti, green salad, bread & likely grilled Italian sausage. Mark & helpers.
4. Wayno & Masha & helpers gourmet meal Carne Asada
5. Taco & Tamale night, Fritz, Heidi & helpers.
You are on your own for breakfasts & lunches.
Firewood! Last year we had too much firewood. Heidi & I will bring a bunch of our “free” wood & 11worth has committed to bringing some wood too. Please don’t spend your hard-earned money on firewood----------instead----spend it on fine wines, beer, & great H’ordeuvres to share.
We'd love to see you again? Let me know your thoughts?
Notes:
1. The no small children & no pets policy worked so well, we are doing that again too.
2. If you plan on attending, post here if you want your name on ST as an attendee, or contact me, if you would like to be anonymous?
3. Campsite costs will be shared and donations accepted for food & all campers are expected to help with the work load.
4. We do welcome diversity & young & fun climbers!
Namaste,
Fritz

There are now few nearby campsites available, and you need to get off your ass and reserve them in advance.
Here is a link: http://www.reserveamerica.com/ Look for City of Rocks National Reserve, Idaho. As of 5/10 there are zero out of 47 campspots left at City of Rocks for nights of June 21-25.
The same search also show Castle Rocks State Park with 8 sites available.
Their Smoky Mountain camp offers deluxe camping with showers, cell & internet connectivity at reasonable prices. On the map of Smoky Mt. camp, the blue sites are still available. Of those available, #2 would be best for tent camping & 27 - 28 are not at all suitable for tent camping & lack shade.
Also-----Please remember Sheridan Anderson's warning!

I am assuming that all the folks Fritz mentioned in the group camp and the other sites are going to be in on the meals. Some folks are coming in later but that shouldn't matter. I'm planning on feeding 35 for my dinner, that way no-one goes hungry and I will have leftovers. I will know my costs and go from there. How are the other meal planners going to roll?
