I just spoke with Ron Gomez.
Through the weekend he is going to get in touch with Dean, Ricky, Maria and Tony to sort this thing out for proper a kickoff.
Stay tuned.

Largopalooza... that made my morning!
I took my weekly lotto money and gave it to the fund... odds are it will bear more fruit that way!

As a reminder: the ChipIn fund is temporary and is currently slated to close January 30.
http://johnlongdonations.chipin.com/john-long
I see $3,422 listed as the total through December 3 (last night couchmaster said it was at $3700, so unless someone got a refund, the tool isn't updating through that link).
Krista?
[EDIT] yes of course refreshing: refreshing the page doesn't always change it and the date timeline remains December 3. That thing is clunky. But it's collecting money so that's great, thanks!

To all my friends:
Hi everyone. Sorry to have lagged on responding but I'm still having procedures done and that is taking all of my time and energy. Should be done soon.
As you might know, when I was still out of it entirely, my friends Krista and Chris set up a fund and while their intentions are strictly honorable, some confusion arose from those who I work with who know that I am NOT in a financial crisis at this time. Perhaps that time will come - I've worked and saved for years but this is likely a near million dollar injury cha cha cha.
Anyway, because this is quickly turning into a situation that is over my head, impossible to orchestrate from this bed, my original climbing and high school friend Eric (Ricky) Accomazzo (my attorney) is from now on handling all affairs related to funraisers, me, etc. Rick Accomazzo is not only a much celebrated climber, but also trusted person in the outdoor industry and long-time advocate of the ACCESS FUND. Krista and Rick have talked so the transition to Rick having power of attorney over my affairs is now a plain fact understood by all.
That much said, I very much appreciate what Krista and Chris did while I was in surgery and the many kind responses. But this is a complicated business and I am glad to have my childhood friend and original Stonemaster Rock Accomazzo now in charge.
Sincerely,
John Long

Yeah, sorry to hear that it is such a serious injury.
The Taco's own "Buster" is a top flight orthopod, a scottish climber from way back who knew all the old crowd.
Say the word and I'm confidant that you can get a valuable consult, John.
Sounds like the fund is only going to be small help, but that things are under control. Good for that.
(but I still think Crimpie would have gotten Krista to tap out in the second)

We haven't seen any pix of Krista. She might be MMA rad all the way.
I just wanna see who taps out in the lap dance off!
(I look forward to it being me.) But how can I be an impartial judge unless I'm subjected to both of them? But based on the only available information at this point, It's gonna be hard to beat Crimper.
Hang in there John, you've got a big team behind you.

We have a guy on our fire crew....59 years old. Last May, while on a fire, he put his boot between two big branches a fell, snapping his ankle at a 90* angle. It looked bad and you know, when you get to be our age its just going to be a longer recovery. Well, he was in pretty good shape before and by last month he was walking without his walking sticks and moving along better than ever............So, hang in there John!

I've done aid climbs after limping up the approach with a crutch.
Largo should do a route on the big stone and use the Americans with Disabilities Act to demand a BASE permit to allow descent for a handicapped person.

Update: I'm not sure of a discharge date, but he is scheduled for surgery this morning to remove the outer rods and such and place interior plates and pins in. Not sure if the they are doing the skin graft to close the wound or not. I'm gonna be there later and I'll try to get some more info for you all. Send some good vibes!

I don't think Largo qualifies as I could for medical malpractice
administrative hearing mistakes. However I won't take from that
for that.
NoTokeRedKneck,
great second taco post! Better leave the writing to Largo,...
Krista,
thanks for the update, glad you are dialed in to the ST culture now.
We're all pulling for John.

They were waiting for the swelling to go down thats why it's been a while, and getting prepped for the graft. I know it's a long time for ortho, but hopefully they're gonna get it right the first time.

As a survivor of several major surgeries -- including having my chest cracked wide open not once, but three times -- I believe it is preferable that the surgeons take their time. The only thing that has ever made me itchy for a quick exit from the hospital was the really bad food at the UCSD medical center.

Spoke to John this morning. Here is what is happening:
John is having surgery today, apparently the last one. The leg appears to be healing properly and he is looking forward to getting out of the hospital in a week or so.
I am going to sit down with John after he gets out of the hospital and evaluate with him the need for future fundraising efforts. If there is a need and John wants us to go ahead, we will then make plans for a coordinated and robust fundraiser. We will announce it on this thread and start a new one at that time.
John wanted to thank Krista again for the "chip in" fundraising effort. She is going to deliver proceeds to him today. These funds will be used to defray the costs of his daughter's travel expenses and for other incidentals during his hospital stay. As of today, John wants the interim, "chip in' fundraising effort shut down.
To all those who have contributed money, offered thoughts and prayers, and suggested ideas for fundraising, John thanks you. To all who want to help John, please hold those thoughts until we evaluate the need and then announce a fundraising goal to fill that need.
The outpouring of good will from this community is palpable and heart warming. John is very moved by this and appreciates it greatly.
Rick Accomazzo
