Questions to be answered:
Black Jack Shellac - is he cartoonishly famous? Where should he be on the list?
Russ Courtenal - I don't know anything about him, so I'll leave to the experts themselves, Canadians, to decide if he should be on the list...

Nov 13, 2013 - 11:54am PT

I was on the Briceburg stretch of the Merced yesterday.

I came across a big old gaggle of famous Canadians.

My count was twelve, but I was educated in America...

There was a pair of ducks along with them.

They all claimed they were from France, not Quebec, though they spoke with a Quack-beckian accent, using no “eh’s” but “non’s” instead.

“She has nice pinfeathers, quack, non?”

or

“Now, that’s a fish taco, HONK!, non?”

They asked if I knew the Foster Farms chickens as they were a big deal up there.

I told them they were good friends of Pop Werner’s and that he had them for dinner regularly.

They told me to stuff it and flew off down-river.

Tourists!

She looks vaguely naval, but I believe all honorables get to do regalia in dress for formal occasions--but that's a Canadian deal, not a California thing.

Formal, I mean.

Mayann E. Francis is the thirty-first on the list of Lt. Governors of Nova Scotia, the naval heart of Canada's military body.

31. The Honourable Mayann E. Francis, ONS (1946-)
2006-2012

Born in Whitney Pier, Nova Scotia, The Hon. Mayann Francis was the first African Nova Scotian, and only the second woman to hold the position of Lieutenant Governor. She was also the first permanent female Director and CEO of the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission, and the first woman to be appointed Ombudsman in Nova Scotia.

Prior to becoming Lieutenant Governor, Ms. Francis earned a Masters Degree in Public Administration from New York University and went on to hold a number of senior positions in the private and public sectors in both the U.S. and Canada. She also worked on a variety of projects in Canada, the United States and overseas and served on numerous boards.

In 2008, Ms. Francis was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from Mount Saint Vincent University. From 2008-2012 she was Honorary Lieutenant Colonel of 3 Intelligence Company. In 2010, the University of the West Indies awarded her the Luminary Award in recognition of her public service and outstanding citizenship

Re: Banting & Best: They intentionally did not seek a patent for their insulin vaccine. I assume this means that they were "socialists." For that matter, neither did Jonas Salk (the creator of the polio vaccine), but he was a Yank. I'll vote to confer honorary Canadian citizenship upon him.

Also, Shirley Douglas - Tommy's daughter.

Pyro, Mouse, Vmcgal, Tami, Stewart, Syncronicity and Matisse: They are now added to the list. A new category "Honorary Canadians" is also added.

Questions still to be answered:
Black Jack Shellac - is he cartoonishly famous? Where should he be on the list?

You have to consider my perspective... I'm a Norwegian... the most famous Canadians in Norway are the XC skiers, so 'famous Canadian XC skier' is no oxymoron in Norway. And in one way or another, maybe all fame is cartoonish...?... ;o)

Edited: wbw - there's no number-on-the-list priority... I'd have to leave that to you Canadians...
