My aerobic workouts are about to increase, I'm leaving in one hour for the San Rafael Swell, 245 miles of driving coming up- puff, puff.

Indeed, K. It went from crappy to amazing in the space of mere days. I was walking around the pear orchards by my house today in shorts and sandals!

Don't pull a hammy Mr.Donini. You certainly log more miles than anyone I know, sounds like the good life for sure.

Jaybro,

I find a dip belt around the waist helps alot. Thats what bachar recommended. He also advocated weighted pullups. Heavy weighted pull-ups don't hurt my elbows, high reps do.

Anaerobic day. Gym pitches, 100 pullups, 90 dips a bunch of weights. Running tomorrow, early, gonna be 83º. I love weighted pullups*, but It would take a lot more than that to catch Bachar...

What's a "dip belt"?
Nice shots Wildone, way to 'smell the roses' while working out aerobically!

are you an East bay guy Vitally

*Once did two with a 110 woman on my back, might have done more, but she distracted me....

on Sunday did the 4 summit loop on Mt Diablo(supposedly 5000ft of elevation gain), most of it with 5.5 gallons of weight in my pack for training. Monday and tuesday had hour sessions on stationary bike..

Jaybro,

Its a belt with a chain that allows the weight to hang between your legs.

LOL, yeah getting on bachar's level is nearly impossible. Still that doesn't stop up from training hard and trying to get better. I do miss JB on these forums.

I think bachar's one rep max for weighted pullups was 150#'s...dayum!

150# weighted pullup? That would be me lifting (a little more than) me. Amazing.
I did short steep hill repeats last night, which are hell on the lungs but not on the legs, strangely.
Upper body is trashed from two days in a row of high volume pullups, dips and heavy barbell thrusters so I will just run the office building stairs tonight.
Waiting for the weekend so I can hit the trail and get away from concrete and asphalt underfoot :)

Wildone, your photos are beautiful - what lovely scenery to bike through.

Always seemed strange to me how many climbers emphasize upper arm/lat strength when training away from the rock. Yet they generally ignore a whole wacky world of grip strength out there, in which people do the most ridiculous things like break brand-new pliers by squeezing them, tearing the Houston phone book into 3 pieces lengthwise--wrapped in duct tape, rip the corner of a loose deck of vinyl-coated playing cards. Finger board--all you need...

Hard crack machines seem to translate well. Heard they used to line them with old blue jeans near Laramie, that so Jaybro?

I think dips provide more value for actual climbing than full-range weighted pullups. Maybe partial reps with more weight would be more applicable, as in skinny high jumpers backsquatting 1000 lbs for 1/4s. Easier on your rotator cuffs and elbows.

nice photos.

very jealous, jaybro!

and part of the fun of training is just, well, the fun of training.

if pullups float yr boat, there's worse ways to pass the time. i periodically try to at least do a quick muscle-up and lever on the rings just to make sure i still can. but i honestly miss doing rings and rope as a regular part of my workouts, even though the carryover to climbing was fairly limited.

aerobics-- the short walk i did yesterday almost killed me. just tried to do 40 ft of traverse in the gym and almost hucked a lung.

glad the warm weather is here, it'd be nice to get out from under the walking pneumonia or whatevertf i ended up with.

gonna be all short approaches in jt

Pullups are largely about pullups, but I like pullups.

And yeah I'm pretty sure Bob had a jean-lined crack machine.
And yeah KLK there are worse ways to spend a josh troop that having one with short approachs!

Rest day for me today, trip prep. Maybe a couple weighted pullups before the big bald head disappears behind the boulevard.

had bad pneumonia in 2001 in a Venezuelan jungle.
very good doc, was insistent that I use, hourly, one of those lung exercisers where you raise the balls as soon as he saw me.
When the nurse tested my lung capacity, she said "is that all you can do?"

If you climb at BIW, try the big anchor chain I provided them. It's 65# and progressively adds weight to you as you pull up.

Wow! What a sickly obsessive idea!
i've seen that chain there, I think I just didn't get it.

Oh and, Spirometer?

yeah, that's it.

I didn't use the chain much, so there it is for all to drag upwards. Hits you in that upper range, but eases off as you lower, is the idea. Sort of the opposite of the partials I was speculating on above.

10 mile hike after work in the Santa Cruz mountains above Los Altos, 2400' elevation gain. Saw a baby rattlesnake, pretty cool.
