tough loss for US but Ghana played an excellent game and deserved the win

that was a tremendous goal by Asamoah Gyan to win

They had staying power but they couldn't finish their opportunities
or defend when it mattered - two rather critical attributes.
A number of US players, notably Altidore, had a rather inflated opinion
of their ability to dribble past 2 or 3 Ghanaians. Did they think they
were back in AYSO?

I am happy it was Ghana that beat us rather than a few other countries I won't mention.

Tommorrow - zie krieg! Deutschland 2 - 0 England
England were enjoying the Frogs' passing too much and they caught a
dose of "What, me work? We've socialism for that!"

mexico is out.......

only able to catch last half... Thought mexico was on the ball, totally pressuring argentina, but argentina had a great defence, always scuttling mexico advances.

Good game, argentina to advance.

No USA.. (was kinda excepted)...
No England (kind of an upset)...
No Mexico (and they were doing well)...

Who's next?

Let's hope the bad calls are next to go. Prolly the worst day of officiating in Cup history!

Gonna be a good match between Argentina and Germany any way you cut it though, and Brazil are far from out!

This might be the worst cup ever for the refs though 2002 was pretty bad.
There had to be serious money involved when South Korea 'beat' Spain.

By the way, did anybody notice whether Ronaldo played yesterday?
I saw his name on the lineup card but... pffft!

Oh, by the way, Paul has it all sussed out.
He's got quite the track record and he's got Germany over Argentina!

What, haven't heard of Paul?

My cousin Gabriella (like my sister) can pass as a local in Argentina. Our fathers grew up in Buenos Aires.

Apparently there are Agentine bars in NYC, and when I emailed my cuz during the match she wrote that she was at one and the place was going crazy.

Seems to be a substantial cultural gap with Mexico. My sis says that when she speaks spanish with her mexican nanny that it embarrasses her because Argentines use words that Mexicans consider curse words.

bye bye Brazil. They should spend more time actually playing than whining to the referee next time.

I love Brasil but after almost going up 2-0 they had a complete mental meltdown. Kudos to my pre-cup dark horse favorites Holland for showing real mental and physical fortitude. The Brasilenos looked out of gas physically as well as mentally the second half.

Yeah, Brazil just seemed to fall apart and were lucky not to give up a third goal.

I'm sure all the other remaining teams were cheering on the Netherlands and are delighted that Brazil is out. I've always liked the Dutch team and I'm happy to see them advance to the semi-final.

Uruguay VS Ghana, I'm going with Uruguay 1-0.
Argentina VS Germany should be a great game. I'm predicting Argentina to win 2-1.
Spain VS Paraguay, I say Spain 2-0.
