A always like it when I find the .50 cal machine gun casings in the Sweetw#ter Rocks. The fly boys used to unload out there practicing during WWII. Probably no one was climbing out there in those days and I don't know what they would have fired at, except maybe some high desert elk and rattlesnakes, but it must have been exciting.

If anyone heard any shooting this past Saturday coming from the Cohn property, it was me (and a few others). :)

Thanks Robert & Hilde for the hospitality. My kids haven't stopped raving about the trip (and the missus really enjoyed chatting with Tucker too!).

In the 26 years that I've been coming to the park, this weekend was the first time I had been on the Cohn ranch. If I had known how awesome it was, I might've tried sneakin' in earlier! HAHAHA...KIDDING! KIDDING! rlf is the best.

We now return to the regularly scheduled program, "Haters gonna hate."

Anne:

"but there are some who currently own inholdings in the whispering pines area, or adjacent properties in pine valley"

Where is Pine Valley? Is that up near Eureka Peak?

I understood there were relatively few fee simple properties in Whispering Pines. I come up over the hill on my walks to Smith Water Canyon. Gorgeous bit of wilderness. I understand the NPS has relented and is letting leaseholders renew?

Heh. Well the guns aren't IN Joshua Tree when they're being used.

Furthermore, firearms have been part of the Mojave desert since Spain conquered it in the 1600s. The "National Park" now surrounding the property is the noob in this argument.

This is still America. You do not have the right to never being offended. Conversely, the Founding Fathers were extremely concerned with private property rights and took great pains to protect them within the law.

If you despise liberty, perhaps YOU should emigrate elsewhere.

Oh and Robert, I did some calculations and if I judge the wind right I think I can put a few bullet hole footholds on "Double Cross" from your back porch. ;)

Is this the Cohn property? For sale now? I've been looking for a place to open up a new gun range, looks like the perfect spot.

 Park Blvd
Joshua Tree, CA --
10 acres
LOT/LAND

$625,000

RARE! PRIVATELY OWNED 10 ACRES IN JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK!!

Set in the heart of the park not far from the Wonderland of rocks and the world-renowned rock climbing area of Hidden Valley and sits in a secluded cove all to itself. This land was a holdout when the area became a National Monument then later the National Park.

Stunning views, boulders all around with a small adobe cabin which features a fireplace and 2 other structures that were to be a main house and a stashed away single bedroom cabin that were never completed.

There are tent camping sites all over the property, large pinon pines, yuccas, huge boulder faces for climbing and of course Joshua Trees.

Two 5 acre adjacent lots, off grid with no utilities (existing water tank on property has not been used in quite some time). This property is a must see!

Not the Cohn property.... and I have an over asking bid in already.... AirBnB heaven!
Dhaym! that's sweet, It says two(2) lots, so you can recoup some of the "over-asking" price, adding covenants restricting the number of - allowed SqRFt size & uses of the sold-off parcel.
The other questions that arise are details like; restrictions, what sort of zoning, costs of supplying 'facilities', pumping, water and electric, (solar? + auxiliary diesel?)

coming ten years to soon for me. I'll do the do for sure. How do go about comp'ing something like this?

I know of similar types of property in far flung Idaho'estan, in sight of but not close to the City of etc.
but that is so not this, that makes it hard to grasp.
I know a comp sometimes needs to be (for Bank needs) within 5 miles.
