Bob Johnston isn't rolling the tapes any longer.
He died August 15th. Bob Johnston produced records for the Columbia label. Bob Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited and had Dylan move to Nashville to record Blonde on Blonde. He produced records for many artists and genres, from Leonard Cohen to Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson.
He was one of the few producers who would let musicians do it their way. He was the only Columbia executive that was in favor of Cash's desire to record live from Folsom Prison.
People like him and the late Tom Dowd are the end of great era in music history. These guys were masters at their crafts.
