Ahhh but this'll be some sweet sally shindig. Bob-oh, you're sober as a priest eh? Sober as a judge is the common term, but most o the ones I been before are bent as my crank, so that don't fly neither. Means you waon't be sportin none a bindle of that foul tasting happy crap from yer jersey buddy? Sokay, Dwight's got a handle on things. Looking forward to wheedling the wheatstraw inside some of that wide wooly woodson stuff, Stoney can't compare, well worth the voyage down from NoHo.

Was there ever an answer to the question about Rick's actual status? Every time I asked the same question all I got in reply was silence. Is his name just a draw tease, or has someone managed to get in touch with him?
Nice pitures of the Dragon Arete, unusual and cool perspectives.
I just looked through the topos posted by Ron a ways back, as well as some that Erik has out there. Man, there's a lot of problems. You locals are lucky dogs. A couple of thoughts occurred to me:
Who would be the candidate(s) for having done the most problems at Woodson?
Any opinions on where the best concentration of high quality problems in a small area are, regardless of difficulty?
A good one is the small area right around the Big Grunt.
Cool Jerk, High on the Hog, Big Grunt, Deport Jonny, Forever, Imax, Slap You Silly, Eppi's B-day, Skid Row, Go With the Flow, Bad Boys From Detroit, and Laker Girls. All in a tight little area. You could spend a day right there, or shred your tips, whichever came first.

my fave stretch of the hill is hear my train up to the jaws area. minimal amount of hiking for a king's ransom in golden problems.
another hot spot is the bat flake/alcoa area. so many good cracks n' faces!
my guess is rick won't be there, but we can always hope.

This was the last email I received regarding Rick as of 01/26/10:
"Hi Gary, Hope you are well! Saturday morning I sent an e-mail to Rick's then girlfriend Anna. She hasn't responded. So I don't know what to tell you other than maybe a reminder that Rick is pretty private. Also an enigma at times, that's why we love him! I'm sure Rick will hear of the shindig from someone and I'm guessing others have written her as well. Good luck in contacting him, I'll let you know if I get wind of any thing."

Painted Boulder area is pretty packed with routes; featuring robbins and uncertainty, lie detector, drivin south, rock the boat and a bunch more, plus lots of unroped problems.
Its hard to know who has done what on the hill for several reasons, foremost being the topography, which just absorbs people once they get off the road. Unless you seek them out you dont see that many other climbers until they all come streaming down at the end of the day. Accessibility also makes activity on the hill hard to account for. You park right at the base and within 10 minutes you can be climbing.
You also gotta figure that the people who are climbing there all the time are usually climbing the farthest from the road where the new stuff is, out of view. I climbed extensively (like 5 days a week during some stretches) at woodson from the time i moved to poway in 82 to the mid/late 90's and when you climb there all the time you begin to see some faces consistently. Unless youre a road warrior or lap climber you dont see alot of other climbers until you emerge at the end of the day, so anyone you see consistently is probably there ALL the time (which took me awhile to realize). Those are the people doing lots of problems. I havent been one of those faces for 15 years and dont know who the new ones are, but they are there - you just gotta be one to know one.
Out of all the woodson rats thru the years who has climbed most is anybodys guess. Probably unknowable.
If you mean FA's, thats gonna be controversial. The only person I know of who was on the cutting edge from the poway mtn boys period and stayed there throughout the second wave of development (early 80's to mid 90's) was Piggot. I recorded 55, but mostly on mop-up detail behind the big boys. I dont even know if i could find em all now, and for the record, I couldnt carry any of those guys' chalkbags. Piggot et al were looking for, and found classics. Me and the boys I climbed with were happy with the squeezins. Allenby was in on 36 of those, a respectable number - dont know if he will be there, but i plan on twisting his arm.

I'd have to second the motion that the Painted Boulder switchback probably has the easiest access and the most to choose from in every direction from slabs, mantles, face, cracks, laybacks, and offwidths.
There are so many other areas with great problems I almost feel that I'm leaving them out by having to choose one area over the other!

Unfortunately, the t-shirt isn't going to happen because of the lack of funds. If anyone can come up with something that'd be great but I can't do anything else with it, sorry.

55 FAs? Sheesh. I may have had 3 or 4. I never really got into the whole bouldering world. To me, it was always practice for routes.
