wayno, i was listening to Billy Cobham Spectrum lp this morning.

Willie Dixon was a man's man. Golden Glove boxer, bass player, WWII conscientious objector and legal ambassador for song royalties (he sued Chess Records and Led Zeppelin)He truly was "300 lbs of Heavenly Joy". He wrote a whole catalog of songs for himself and his friends, including these two for the wolf. Before dying he had transformed himself into the leading statesman for the preservation of the blues.

And he walked by zb's house one day.

"Mississippi Queen" by Mountain. Maximum Volume = Maximum Results.

(Their follow up "Bouldering" was less successful.)

Johnny Winter walked by my house one time back around 1991, I wasn't home.

zb, didn't you tell me Willie Dixon made a pass-by also?

Mississippi Queen was the song playing when I first heard the combination of a McKintosh Amplifier and Klipshorn Speakers. I've been partially deaf since that experience and lose a little hearing everyday because of the combination of those two men's work (McKintosh and Klipsch).

These two as well:

The only time I can remember encountering Wille Dixon was the day I rode my mountain bike the length of the Rose Parade and as I was returning back to La Crescenta I saw Willie sitting in the front yard with his family and thought better of interrupting what was clearly a family gathering to introduce myslef.

He did appear to be quite comforatble

February 3, 1959, the day Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and The Big Bopper died in the infamous aeroplane accident.

zb has challenged you to offer up your favorite cover of any of these artist's songs. i believe he offered a prize for the one that pleases him the most.

Jerry Lee Lewis ≈ Chantilly Lace

Written by Robert Carr, Johnny Mitchell, and Sam Weiss, not Richie. It's good though. Never covered by Walter Trout or Johnny Winter.

i'm surprized Johnny Winter didn't cover it, tailored for him and that old firebird.

Commander Cody covered Rave On; which is on the Country Casanova lp; but it isn't to be found today. John Mellancamp's cover will have to do.
