I just got back from an extended trip without email and cell reception and was shocked and saddened to read of Ouch's passing. I too second all of the comments made by other in Taco land. He always made me laugh, my favorite photo of his was of Woody's crotch shot!!!!
Bless you and your family during this time of sorrow, he will be missed by all of us.

Terrible, terrible news. :( He brightened up the taco the whole time he was here, and will continue to do so in our memories. Really sorry for your loss. Just plain bummed after reading this - the best cure is probably to pull up some ouch artwork and remember all the laughter we all shared with him over the years. .

Allie,
Thanks a ton for the stories about your Dad. I always knew he was a great guy, but I had no idea.
I just saw this thread because I spent the weekend in Joshua Tree, taking (or attempting to take) pictures. Maybe, if I was lucky, I would bring home one I could post on here for your Dad to screw with.
Every single photo I posted here, I wanted Ouch! to screw with. And he never disappointed me, starting with the very first pic I put here. He actually made me look good by putting donkey ears on my head.
He seemed to really like using my dopey animals in his work, especially my donkey, Molly. That's Molly standing in the plastic pool in the cartoon you put on here yesterday.
Your Dad made me smile and laugh on practically a daily basis for the last three years I've been checking this site, even during a time or two when I had a hard time finding things to smile about. For that, I'm eternally grateful.
Allie, your Dad, and you too, have a legion af friends you have never met who are grieving over your loss right now.

Gosh, I'm so sorry for your loss.
There are people that get it and people that don't.
Ouch! got it.
And shared it.

I was brimming with pride when my son was born.
I was afraid I was being too giddy with pride.
I announced to the Supertopo folks when your Dad (RIP) responded in kind.
It is not pride, it is simply LOVE.

That has always stuck with me in regards to him. Love is THE most important thing we ever have.
His loss is immeasurable.
Peace be with you always... and rest assured he is in a better place than this!!!
RIP Allen. sm

Allie,
I wish you and yours all the best. Thanks for filling us in on things we didn't know about your dad.
I was sitting in here yesterday showing my wife, Wendy, your dads "work" and we were laughing. Wendy had been wondering why I was sad.
Maybe someone can remind me what he called his "work" one time. Maybe "my little silly scribbles". Something like that. A humble man.
His cartoons were inspired, hilarious and silly, sometimes gross but there was gentleness there, and wisdom. We need all that.
Goodbye bro,
Zander

RIP Ouch, I loved the Bear 46 cartoons! Damn, I took it for granted he'd always be around. So sorry to hear of his passing. Thanks to everyone who posted stories about him and links to his cartoons.

From the daughter of OUCH!,
My Dad....
"It ain't pride. Just Love. What you have is all the reason for your life. Cool!
Take some advice from an old fool who learned the hard way.
When you look at those precious gifts and find reason to criticize, back off and search hard for reasons to encourage."
You got me on that one SM. I held it together on my first day back to work until that one...and I thank you for it!
It is so perfectly...him. I can picture him thinking it and hoping that you will always do exactly that with your son. I think as a parent of 16 and 17 year old girls myself that it is the best advice you will ever receive in regards to parenting. He felt he was too hard on us when we were younger. He wasn't. Not even close.
I closed my office door and am working and reading these postings and silently crying because there is a hole so big in my heart that I feel like it will never be whole again. Then I think of the life he led and that he had 72 years that were filled with so much happiness and find myself smiled again. : )
Thanks again...I will be posting more pics this week and things I think of, if it is indeed welcome because I like doing it and I don't know what else to do...
~Allie

Allie, please post the more pics! My husband died at 6o just 10 months ago and the comments and caring and pictures from all the folk here have made ALL the difference in the world to me.
Plus, it is archived so you can go back on a lonely eve and look at the pictures and read the comments and feel the Joy and Peace and Warmth of Love from People that cared.
You have been and will continue to be in my heart and mind and prayers, Lynnie

Allie,
You are one of us now. Stay with us and post whenever you feel like it about any subject you feel like expressing... We are a forum of climbers... This means that even though we do talk a whole lot more about climbing than anything else on this site, we also talk about other things...
Just ask Lynne how that works. She came to us after the loss of her husband and... Well, it didn't take long for her to start climbing too. (Not bad for a woman who is also a grandmother, business owner, etc.!)
Sending all my best,
Anastasia
