Actually, BrassNuts/Dave did note that the chalk is gone in Eldo except for a few routes. He said even Rosy Crucifixion is clean.

IMO, the word Biblical actually does describe this pretty well. I usually poo-poo the media for sensationalism, but it's really not been the case here. It's an unbelievable mess.

Some homes are now starting to back up sewage resulting in floods - homes that did not get flood waters in them. I saw the manholes covers spewing water yesterday at Table Mesa and Broadway and commented that the sewage flooding may start soon. Sure enough... it's started. It's going to be a loooong (years) recovery in terms of homes and infrastructure. I doubt the trails, creeks, etc will ever be what they were before.

We finally have a reliable internet connection at the motel where we are staying in our fourth day of evacuation. We were able to walk to our house Friday and Saturday and are very happy that it is undamaged from the flood. But we still can't drive there although the road is basically intact between Estes Park and our home. That may change today. They said the power should be back on today!! Here are some photos we took between our house and Estes...

Those pictures of Errett's (and BrassNut's) show clearly the level of devastation that areas in the mountains have suffered. It seems likely that every canyon between C-Springs and Ft. Collins, and all of the various sub-drainages in between have damage on this scale.

Seeing those pix. of Eldo is heartbreaking.

Yes -- keep in mind that every photo I posted was taken in a stretch of highway that is only a mile and a half long. My heart goes out to everyone who lost their homes. Fortunately the loss of life seems to be minimal so far. I haven't heard of anyone being killed in the Big Thompson Canyon yet but many folks were stranded and some may still be missing.

And it is pouring buckets again today. More damage surely to come. I think everyone (self included) are in a state of shock. The damage is mind boggling.

A video of the town of Salina (up four-mile) here. Or, I should say, what was once the town of Salina. This was taken a couple of days ago.

Personally, the kayakers bug me a bit too. Mostly because if they get in trouble, they are using the services of rescuers who are over-utilized now. That is, if they get help. The two women on Long's were stuck and didn't get help because there wasn't any help to spare. Bad timing for them to need/request it.

On the other side of the coin, as a kid growing up in Houston where floods are the norm, we *lived* for the floods. We'd swim in the streets all day. The eddys were a blast (didn't realize the danger). It was awesome!! It didn't occur to us that what was fun for us was ruinous for others.

So it bugs me some, but what the heck else for some to do?

Best of luck to anyone stuck in the deluge. Or downstream.

Don't think the "2 bikers" at about 00:35 actually are. Could be swiftwater rescue techs. They're walking and helmets are consistant with SWRT type gear. Plus it looks like they're carrying throwbags or fins. Neither of which would be helpful given the flow rate in the adjacent creek.

Errett, glad you're okay and that your place survived without
damage.
Bless those that have lost so much. . .

a thorough and complete ass kicking is more like it.

If you've seen the movie The Cove then you know who Louie Psihoyos. He directed it. He's on the left. It was his place and it was a fricking mess.

From the 9:10 National Weather Service Flood Warning:

SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE ACROSS THE FRONT
RANGE AND NORTHEAST COLORADO PLAINS TODAY. THIS MAY CAUSE RENEWED
FLOODING IN AREAS WHERE THE WATER HAS RECEDED AND EXASPERATE THE
FLOODING IN AREAS WHERE FLOODING CONTINUES.

"Exasperate" is the right word under the circumstances.

The usually dry creek behind my house rose back up to flood levels just now after an hour of hard rain. Still dangerous out there and hope the responders are careful.

Wow Crimpergirl, if the chalk on Rosy has been washed off, this weather event truly is biblical. I've never seen that happen . .even after the various chalk clean up days that have occurred.

On a more serious note, the rain is reallyl coming down here in N. Boulder. I just walked down to Goose Creek, 50 meters from my house, and it is definitely rising fast.

CrimperGirl, take off the 's' in https and those facebook links will be clickable on ST.

They will fix that washout and add a much improved water pass-thru system. Lesson learned.

Holy shite. That photo from Munger's Facebook shows the area and slope right below Mickey Mouse Wall, if I'm not mistaken. The entire area looks like it is changed, most obviously the railroad tracks.
The water seems to have carved out an entirely new draw.

Raining hard in Estes Park the last couple of hours. And a Big Thompson video from Thursday - I think this video was made prior to the high water mark since they are able to drive through the town of Drake and I've seen photos of that stretch of highway completely under water....

Unfreaking-believable !

Sorry that my hope from yesterday at 5:45 has been dashed.

Hang in there people.
Hopefully future planning will take the data gathered from this event into consideration. Sadly though, that would mean that some structures can't even be rebuilt higher.

Old Stage Rd was cleared yesterday and we were able to make it down to a friends house. Apparently the power was also repaired yesterday as well. Not sure if it is still on or not?

Prior to coming down I hiked down to Left Hand Canyon.

Here is a pic looking up Old Stage from Left Hand.

Headed west on Left Hand 1/4 mile past Old Stage.

Stay safe.

Yeah, I think you are right. The camera was a little unsteady, so it's a bit unclear. I guess I was judging from the helmets.

I wonder where the money will come from. I wonder what won't be fixed due to the expense. :/
