The next couple of years are gonna be rough.

Bernanke and the three stooges have guaranteed that.

Long term though I'm not that worried.

I'm doing well in California- Two interesting and engaging work situations that generate income and risking some of that building a startup company. I work hard, climb a lot, watch a lot less tv than '08, and I'm having a blast. The future may not be all 'secure'- I'm risking a portion of my net worth to build something- and yeah it might fail. That is awesome. Movement and risk confer meaning to the moments. Stagnation and security do not. The fact that this has to be brought up among a bunch of climbers boggles the mind a bit.

I don't have kids- so I'm sure that inherently creates a perspective shift. However, I also am sure that kids learn best by your example- and that willingness and optimism regardless of the details is something I want to pass on.

Splitter, I agree with your sentiment but I have to correct you, WB Yeats was born in 1865. He is Jennie's favourite poet. We have several books by or on him.

This thread is becoming quite useless (what with personal insults and such), no offence to the contributors, but I do believe that we all have our convictions and none of us will be swayed... necessarily, unless there is an earth-shattering revelation.

Ron if you think that Romney is the lesser of two evils, go with your heart and head and vote for him. But remember, as you are casting your vote, that while this 'crisis' has been decades in the making, the party that Romney represents is the party that brought the crisis to the boiling point.

Obama, as McCain would have, inherited a poisoned chalice. To use an old saying, Rome was not built in a day. What Bushie Junior and company did was horrible. But if you choose to continue with their legacy, then vote for Romney.

I say, let's give Obama another four years. If he and his team have not sorted out the mess by then, of course the Republicans will have a POTUS-elect come 2016. The question is, can we wait another four years for the mess to be sorted, if it is. The Romney/Ryan policies do not seem to be beneficial to the average American, perhaps I am wrong. Nor their policies for the country's best interests (did Romney and the companies he was involved in outsource jobs to China, etc etc ad nauseam).

The other question is: Is Obama leading the country on the correct path? Obama did not create the mess the United States is in, and it is certainly debatable if his administration and policies have helped in the right direction. But again, Rome was not built in a day, nor was its decline overnight. Decades in the making but Bushco condensed those decades in to eight years.

I say, let him get on with the job. Overall, looking at the larger picture, and damn the statistics (as we all know, statistics can tell both sides of the story), Obama has not done that bad. It is not like he has had to clean up one doggie poo on the sidewalk with a small shovel. He was handed the job of cleaning up tons of elephant poo.

Just my two cents.

I'm tempted to vote for Romney but he still hasn't explained how he's going to fix the economy...A minor detail that smells like voo doo economics...

Rottingjohnny, not you too...

I must be missing something. Let me see, brain, no not there, heart, only if I take care of it, Friends, yeah I finally bought some (haven't used them).

From where I sit, I do not see Obama doing a bad enough job to oust him. Maybe I am sitting in the wrong spot.

Heck, the US voters (forgetting the Florida fiasco, FF) gave Bushie eight years to mess up, let's at least give Obama eight years to clean up, or mess up further. Roll the dice.

I voted for Hilary back in 2008. Why? Because I thought she had the... the... no that's a male thing... the fortitude to be tough and gentle. Obama is just too meek, but I'd imagine the past four years has toughened him up a bit.

Romney? Come on, let's look at his record as a politician. The guy is like a Rubik's cube. Flip flop, flip flop. flip flop. But I guess that is the nature of politics.

And somebody up thread mentioned term limits for senators and reps, makes sense to me. Who wants a politician mired in the process. Easy street here I come.

"he still hasn't explained how he's going to fix the economy.."

That's 'cuz his 'solution' isn't going to be very popular....pull the trigger on Iran, and bingo! We're in a war time economy.

Thousands dead, but economy fixed. Voila!

The only thing I wonder about is whether the Congressional Morons' addressing
of the fiscal cliff situation will come down to a matter of hours or minutes.
I mean one wouldn't want to let stuff like that get in the way of having
hearings about steroid use in baseball and other important stuff.

Yes the whole world is in anxiety.

The criminals have control over the people.

And the people have let them.

And now the people are just starting to wake up.

Thus the criminals will want to take full control of the internet to keep the people asleep .......
