Gotta bump this thread.
I'm really trying to up my game on the mando, which can pretty much only go up! Anyone on ST ever go to the Maltby Jam...first Saturday of each month, except July and September? I'm hoping to get over there on June 7, as it's been a while, and I need to put myself out there with others.

There was some talk a while back about some PNorthwesterners getting together in Leavenworth, or somewhere, for some camping/climbing/pickin'. Kind of an awesome thought, no?

Nice one, DD. Tim O'Brien cracks me up. Such a mellow guy. The ability to look bored in such close proximity to Thiele's manic, synchopated, buzzing energy - it's a true testament to the level on which he's operating. That may be the only downside of seeing him and Darrell Scott do their thing live - they're just too damn easy up there. "Oh, this incredible music we're conjuring? Yeah, it's no big deal."

Mooser,
My good friend Gary Wagner "The Pick Guy" took me to the Maltby Jam last year (I had just taken possession of my 37 herringbone) and I was impressed.
Appropriately, the venue is a former Grange Hall and it's a cool building with a nice stage and a good sounding room.
The regulars potluck a variety of home cooking and there's a big dining area offset from the main auditorium where you can chill and still see the stage and listen to the music.
Nice people, Northwest hospitality, musicians of all abilities.
Can't wait to get back.
On another note;
The Wenatchee Bluegrass Festival is on the weekend of June 21 and it's most excellent.
Good camping at the Chelan County Fairground, great venue, line ups and campground jam sessions.
This festival is organized by Leavenworth regulars and some of the nicest people you'll ever meet.
I hope to make it this year.

PB - Yeah, Maltby is a great venue, with a surprisingly large array of excellent musicians. It's a humbling experience for me to go to, and it's been a few years. Definitely planning on becoming a regular again.
The Wenatchee festival sounds like a possibility. I'm at a work gig in Los Angeles until Friday night, but maybe I could get over there for Saturday. If I do, I'll look for you!
Anybody want to meet me at Maltby on June 7? I'll make you feel great about your musicianship!

Got to play in a really nice bluegrass jam last night in the Ballard area of Seattle--a pub called "Conor Byrne's." Some really good musicians, and a friendly group of about a dozen, or so.
