The offside, if there was one, is determined at the time the ball is played forward, not the time it's received. Plus the pass has to be in the offensive half of the field, go forward, and be made by someone on the attacking team. And some other details that don't seem relevant here. So a photo or video showing that someone appears on/off side at the time he receives the ball is irrelevant. It's where the players were when the ball is played forward that matters.

I dunno. Soccer seems like a bunch of runnin' around & no scoring.
Much like my life. (dammit). yarrrrr.
Maybe I don't get it?

Mighty Hiker: The freeze frame is at the time the ball is played forward. It clearly shows that there are 2 Algerian defenders between Dempsey at the far post and the goal at the time his teammate Gomez passes the ball to him.

Personally, I purposely propelled a projectile past the perimetered perimeters of the playing pitch when I saw that goal!
But really, the defense is going to have to play a little tighter if we're going to beat Ghana. I do think there is more greatness to come however.

Skully,
It is just ballet for men and their balls; simple yet full of subtleties.
News alert: Slovakia goes up 1-0 on the wanker Ites who face
the same ignominy as the Frogs! The Ites must win to advance
yet they are playing like they couldn't care less!

US better take it up a couple of notches in the 2nd half...they were dominated on both ends of the field by Ghana in the 1st half

Jingy,
Explain it to a n00b. How long is OT? Then what if still tied?

watching on line. Univision doesn't require add-ins like ABC. plus, i turn on the sound when there's a goal just to listen to that crazy announcer they have.

well... that's it for the USA.
Put on a great show.. but could not close the deal.
Ghana again stops the USA's advance.....
Too bad.
Maybe next time.
I'll be waiting
On a side note: its good to see an African Nation still in the World Cup being hosted in South Africa.
The American team has nothing to be ashamed of or angry at... In this world cup, they have given their all.
I am proud for them.
