Flexible/scalable way to give everyone what they want:

Enable users to TAG each page:
"TR"
"politics"
"sex"
"LEB"

Then let users create their own Tabs that represent a filtered list of threads that include a boolean expression of tags. Or simplify it a little like this example of a user-preferences config page:
-----------------------
Tab-Title: ___
matched tags:
( ) Trip Report
( ) LEB
( ) Politics
( ) Religion

excluded tags:
( ) Trip Report
( ) LEB
( ) Politics
( ) Religion
-----------------------

Go back and take all the official trip reports and mark them with the tag "Trip Report" then create a default tab for everyone that matches that tag.

I'm willing to provide more implementation detail and UI suggestions for creating the user preferences navigation screens.
