I got home yesterday from FL where I had been since Weds. for a sibling reunion at my brother's house. I think it has been over 40+ years since the 7 of us slept under the same roof.
As we were hanging out on the beach late Saturday, my brother got a call that his best friend had gone missing in a freak water accident in a very calm bay that feeds into the ocean a short distance from where we were.
Mark was to the beach what some are to the boulders and walls of Yosemite. Someone you just never think could go down that way. He was any man's friend and would drop whatever to give someone a hand. He was ex Coast Guard and knew how to survive in the water, always putting safety first and teaching others safety. No one really knows what happened at this point; except that his pontoon boat had got caught in the breeze and was being blown across the bay. He took off swimming to get to it before it collided with bridge pilings. His girlfriend and her son saw him one moment approaching the boat and seconds later he simply vanished.
Mark Digesu was my only friend in the little hamlet where my brother lives. When visiting my brother, Mark was the first person I sought out to "hang with" while he worked on boats and jet skis. We were both bachelors and were a little different than most of my brother's friends.
I grieve for for Mark, his family, my brother and all of Mark's many friends.

Dead silence. It's actually quite liberating. Seriously. My offspring constantly need noise to accompany them.

I am so sorry, Tobia...
Really nice A. Krauss selection as a tribute.

Oh... and I am listening to the Nina Simone channel on Pandora while I work, as per usual.
Love this song:

For some reason, that last post of mine made me want to listen to an old Alphonso Johnson song, "Bahama Mamma". Just a heads up; it's basically out of the fusion school of jazz. But I always liked Billy Cobham. With Tom Scott, Steve Khan, Alphonso Johnson, and Cobham. Alivemutherforya

Before she started college a year ago, my daughter played percussion including the marimba. She really took to the marimba having started on the piano at 4. Well the thing has sat in the house all lonely and silent. Anyway, these two are a pretty tight percussion duo doing a marimba/drum kit version of Spain I stumbled into.
