Thanks, Brook. A great old piece of personal history, there.

That's not how you do a kick turn, though. F'n n00bs. :0)

Niece Jessica, wonder-woman mom-nurse, made a day trip into Emigrant Wilderness this week with a friend. She cannot sit still while all this scenery is out there begging to be seen.

What would she be like if she began rock climbing?

do more than re-arange the deck chairs on a sinking ship.

Annika Sörenstam, of Golf fame,
who I remember climbing with in the 80s
maybe met through/with friends of Newts?
In 'Zona, Land of Nod? & Shelf/Penatente
& rock garden, colorado, canyon

I'm not sure, I have no pictures . . .
Anyone?

if so,
Is gravity a good force?
If so,
Is water bad for Cliffs?
Does size matter?
If so,
Is water bad for rocks?
Is "bad" for some things, "good", for other things ?
What happens Happens - Are all things equal?
Is living bad for one's health?

Still better here, ILL Place it as it is pulled so

. . . . . Yes, I used those, rail-road spikes, & very good "Carriage Bolts"similar to That came from the ends of the axles of horse drawn carts.
They had a very wide head that held a girth hitch, were 4", 1/2".

One night in my travels around the webs I saw a picture of one from the Adirondacks,
where the poster was incredulous that such a thing was used & only at head height; about 6 feet off the ground.

I was 5 foot tall for years & years,
there was probably snow when I placed it as a multi-directional 1st piece,
I had a screen shot of it but haven't been able to find it.

Please excuse the video repetition,
I spent a lot of time at the falls in the `70s.
Then, when crack, the drug, hit in the `80s
it became to dangerous to climb there
with out ... a side arm &oh the Irony.

The Stove Legs saw action in more urban settings.
As single point anchors on the bridges.
then pre-placed in those chimneys at the Great Falls in Paterson NJ.
Not the bridges, but much of the wide cement walkways & Flag pole are new - would have made a good anchor.
climbing prolly banned when In 2009,the area was granted National Park status, bummer)[Click to View YouTube Video]
They also fit perfectly along/under the bridge(s).
Where they blended in with the rusting iron railings.[Click to View YouTube Video] Allowing for stealth raps at dawn to climb the ice there. [Click to View YouTube Video]

I would fix them in the slot chimneys of the cliff at the "Heights"in NJ, above the Hudson River.
There may be a few that still reside. as rap anchors.[Click to View YouTube Video]

This is the 2nd time in a week, that I've been tempted to go
and look to see if that descent is still viable,
But climbing there is, "Mad illegal", a $1500.00+,
along with other charges, breach of peace, & confiscation of gear, was always added, thus the mid-evil gear.

Bushman, & to the family,

the long shadow falls here too.

there are no words,

the heaviest hart, forced to carry the saddest of loads
to tow where- when-now-there-is-no-where to go

I'm sorry.

I hope that over time
your griefs
pass on,

that the depth of sadness holds you only when you wish it toAnd that in the end the memories of happier times, over take those of pain & sadness, that the memories become less painful, some sort of relief if any sort of anything can?
I hope you find a type of relief

I’m sorry I couldn’t leave that one up, it was just too painful. He was only forty one.
Maybe I’ll post back here more when some time has passed. We lost our boy a couple weeks ago. It’s not getting any easier yet. Here’s one I wrote for him that was less difficult to bear.

Near to the Heart

Not over the mountains
or miles away
I’m closer to home
and near to the heart

I’m there at the park
at a spring ball game
I’m closer to home
we’re not far apart

Not off on a journey
on an Autumn day
But happy and free
and near to the heart

I’m there in your thoughts
and won’t go away
I’ll always be with you
and never to part

I’m just within earshot
not oceans away
I’m closer to home now
and near to the heart

For Daughters and Sons;
Disagreeing to Agree

We fill our world like an empty box
with worn out shoes
and holy sox
We fill our lives with empty titles
like kings of nothing
o’er bloody battles

Curving ‘round the next bend
we once saw everything
beyond the dreams
though nothing ever really happens
‘Till in the end
there’s no one left
but daughters and sons

We fill our time with empty promise
published plans
and give short notice
Filling our memories with empty luggage
forgetting our moments
kept in storage

Taking stock and losing courage
we once were lions
in the ring
Until our claws
dulled by use
worn until we’re finally broken
by unnamed laws

Seeing the wonder in everything
we once had passion
never knowing
there’d be such pain
For in the end
we are nowhere
but still remain

A poem by 8yr old granddaughter Sadie

Animals Fall
By Sadie Hutchings

I see leaves changing color, rain falling down, apples are ripe, so now fall is all around.

Branches are bare, animals are getting ready almost everywhere.

Bears and Squirrels ate and ate getting ready to hibernate.

Leaves of gold, leaves of brown, now fall is all around.

Good morning, gang. I am back in Merced...at the medical center with atrial fibrillation and increased INR levels and low BP. Facelift was a real job of work, what with my inability to motor along well enuf to do any lifting or much of anything except sittin' at the registration tables handing out plastic reusable bags, grabbers, and sanitary gloves. It was great to be able to do that in the company of such fine folks from our ST community and others of like mind.

This illness, like others, should pass, but it seems I am doomed to be a semi-invalid now, managing one physical crisis after another, but I did enjoy a fairly long time recently (since moving to Jamestown) of good health. Whatever reason there is for this latest episode, it shall be sleuthed out by these staff docs and I'm not leaving till I know I'm able to do for myself when I get out. Should be no big problem and I'll be posting from the hospital a la DMT.

I have lots of photos to post, too.

It was very good of Jim Valensi of San Pedro, a river rat and tugboat operator, to give me transpo up and back and to help out with my limited strength and incapacities. He's a great guy and has excellent story-telling abilities. He just has a bit of trouble Shutting the F Up!Sorta like moi.

More later. Need to back off and rest.

Yerian, yer next!
