Did my usual HiiT session on the 1/4 mile track in a light rain last night. The only other person there was this guy with a crippled leg who was already doing laps when I arrived. He was struggling with a lot of awkward effort and I found it amazing that he was even able to stay upright, much less keep up any kind of a pace.
It was getting dark as my dog and I departed. I looked back one last time to see him still lurching forward in the rainy darkness.

Awesome how so many are hanging in there with starting out and staying with New Years "get health(ier)"
I've been pretty consistent with primarily biking and/or hiking several times a week. Minimum of 2 hours, max of 4 hours.
Not so much skiing. In about a week we'll go up further North and see what transpires snow wise...or I could go home to the East Coast for a visit....not.
Anyone tried out the new Fit Bit Surge that has HRM and GPS functions without a chest strap? It's pricey and I don't want to get it if it's got bugs to work out.

Nordy stuff has been non-existent for me due to a funky Juneuary that is on week #4 up here. Crazy, I've hardly skied this year...I can count the # on two hands! Plus, a bitchin 3+ week of sinus infection funness has me fairly outa shape and chompin' at the bit to swill some air. Got a 30ish mile road ride on my fixt wheel in 50 degree weather on Sunday and it felt SOOOOOO GOOOOD and I think I pretty much kicked that sinus stuff to the asphalt. I figure 2,3-4 weeks of fixtness will prep my knees for some spring running. So, I am road riding this week!

Invert camp;
Sunday evening I drove to the needles district of canyonlands and got a quick round of invert problems; following up on two trips to the Crackhouse the two days before. I'm determined to make this an invert year. Who says old Dogs can't perfect new tricks? -that they had a hand in creating in the first place....
The next mornIng I rode my mtn bike, 'The yellow beast' from Squaw flat cmpgrnd needles district ( pssst, free this time of year!) to the Colorado river overlook, 22.4 miles, 6 paved. After a morning invert session at said pothole point boulders.
Look at the those six shooters, similar alignment as the view from century crack, several miles West......
Went back to PPB and tried to do another session but only managed one, feeble, invert.
This morning I drank coffee, finished reading Smoke Blanchards book, and headed back to pothole point. Spent half an hour with my feet over my head, then drove down to the end if the road and checked out the trail to the confluence from that trailhead. It's 11 miles round trip, which I knew I didn't have in me, but it's a very cool trail and I'll be back! Managed two (slow) miles and was satisfied...
When I got back to the car Hekyl covered "Wake of the Flood" for my entertainment!
One last stop ( the fifth in three days) at pothole point. This time I went all out, did laps, invert sittups and even employed a 20 lb weight vest!
Hekyll & Jekyll did not seem impressed;

Sick little program you've got going there Jay. Sick.
Just ticked in at 1:20 and change on the usual loop. My foot popped on the descent, happy handjams saved the day.

Commuted by bike every day this week.
(there's one for the warmists)
Took the LWH (long way home) Wednesday with 4X8'intervals.
Today on the way home had to detour around a wreck a block from the shop. A CHP tee boned a small car at high speed and knocked it clear into the bushes.
Hope no one was on the passenger side!

Started back in the gym three weeks ago to supplement the aerobic training. Fortunately the gym is 2 miles away from the office. I'm always leaving later than I should, so I really pound it getting to the gym. My body protested violently with the masochistic training exercises I end up doing. The run back to the office is never as sprightly. Still I was delighted to get in a great run despite the rebellion that my hammies were throwing today. Ran up the stairs from Burnside to the Japanese Gardens, then up asphalt to the lower gate of the Zoo. Thank God the second half of that run is downhill!
Feeling a little competitive spirit stirring. Signed up for a couple of tough races. Smith Rock Ascent in May - 15 miles and a couple of good climbs. July will be Fueled by Fine Wine, running through the ridiculous vineyards in Dundee. Oregon. Let's continue to fight aging.

From the house to meet up with a group of Clydesdales from another forum.
12 mi of relatively flat from home to GMR (Glendora Mt. Road), to Baldy Village for lunch then back home.
67 mi +/- 6000 ft of gain.
Can keep up with the carbon weenies with fat tires and a CX bike, even with breaking a chain and a quick repair.

The last time i checked in, i think was Nov 2013 after running 1/2 marathon.
The week after i had to stop running due to knee troubles. i took up cycling again and avg. 100 -140 miles each week until Nov 4th when i had knee replacement surgery.
i've been released to start riding on the road again; they are pretty stingy with the miles; but it is a start. i was riding 20 minutes a day during recovery on indoor trainer; but stopped a few weeks ago.
i plan on mixing some running in with the riding when i am a little more sure of this "robo" knee.
it's been a pretty boring (and fating) 4 months!

I have been trying to run a faster two miles on the high school cushy track. I keep trying to shove will power down to my feet. They don't seem to be getting the message. I keep trying with every damn step. Wake up! Come on! Get moving faster! Pick it up! Let's go! Every damn step. I can't get distracted. Keep at it, every single step.
Finally, after a few weeks of this, I am running some 100's after my two miles.
I got my pre-Thanksgiving weight down from 187 to 159. Near the end of the 100 yards I feel like I am flying. Delusional, of course, at age 60 I am slow, but it still feels great to be so light.
Will power is so key to every athletic effort. Get those nerve channels firing.
I also point my thumbs up to the sky hard. This makes my elbows bend up more, so that my arms can pump faster. Then my legs can likewise move faster. Try it sometime. It really helps. Especially when you find yourself drifting.
Happy as a lark and feeling strong as a colt.

I got my pre-Thanksgiving weight down from 187 to 159. Pretty much what I'm in the middle of. Any particulars? Done it before a couple of time, but always curious about other folks' approaches.

I used to run the mirror lake loop.
There was a sign indicating a mile, and I thought I'd gotten close to a 4 minute mile at times.
Nobody gives a rip about 4 minute miles anymore.
Neither should they.

Saturday - 50 moto singletrack of steep rocky miles on Butte monzonite with sandy stuff connectors. The bouldering along the trails is amazing - worked!
35 miles roady dirt ride to snow/mud - tired!
After work rides and runs with the new time change should help with dropping the lbs.!
