Our entire society is fundamentally science illiterate
Sad but true. We have shifted from a society who values intelligence, innovation & critical thinking to one of instant gratification, opinions formed on the basis of the most outrageous 10 sec soundbite and lauding people like Joe the Plumber, Sarah Palin & Louie Gohmert as our best leaders.
Meanwhile, we kvetch about our declining exports, dropping test scores and loss of international competitiveness.
When I was a kid, my heroes were Superman, Hopalong Cassidy, astronauts and my dad. Society nowadays worships thugs, bling and outrageous behavior. No wonder people like the deniers on this thread can't think it through. They don't give a damn beyond living their own lives and can't be bothered to try and create a better world for the coming generations.

seriously, Ed?
you post on this thread in replies to Rick Sumner, Sketch, and the chief for the purpose of
educating someone else ... ?
I'm super glad Ed posts here--I've learned a ton about the science.
I also think it's great that we have deniers try to poke holes in the science, it gives folks something to respond to.

Thanks for the weather report, TGT
http://stevengoddard.wordpress.com/2014/11/10/record-cold-in-colorado-2/
Experts say that below zero temperatures almost never happen any more, due to your SUV. Look for NCDC to report 2014 as the hottest year ever, during the coldest mid-November on record.
Classic denier gibberish contrasting weather with yearly global average.

Surely never in the past 56 plus years I have been here
I submit this as conclusive proof of a person living with his head up his arse. Not that it was really in question...

"As these figure below from the report also illustrates, about 70% of studies indicate that crop yields will decline as the Earth continues to warm after 2030, with a high chance that yields could decline by 25% or more by the end of the century if we continue on our current path"

"A new study by scientists at Duke University found that the widespread rejection of climate science by American political conservatives is in large part due to their distaste for the proposed solutions. Climate contrarians are afraid that climate policies will slow economic growth, despite evidence to the contrary.
However, if it turns out that the sceptics are right in their optimism that the best case climate scenario will occur, and if we go too far in our efforts to reduce carbon pollution, we can easily scale those efforts back. We can’t reanimate extinct species, but we can adjust climate policies as needed."
http://today.duke.edu/2014/11/solutionaversion
"Participants in the experiment, including both self-identified Republicans and Democrats, read a statement asserting that global temperatures will rise 3.2 degrees in the 21st century. They were then asked to evaluate a proposed policy solution to address the warming.
When the policy solution emphasized a tax on carbon emissions or some other form of government regulation, which is generally opposed by Republican ideology, only 22 percent of Republicans said they believed the temperatures would rise at least as much as indicated by the scientific statement they read.
But when the proposed policy solution emphasized the free market, such as with innovative green technology, 55 percent of Republicans agreed with the scientific statement.
For Democrats, the same experiment recorded no difference in their belief, regardless of the proposed solution to climate change."

Please do let us all know when this supposed major "Shift" that you indicated in the post below, took place, Skep?
I don't debate with idiots. I find it's never worth the effort.
