This all reminds me of "The Case of the Burrowing Burro: A Barry Minot Mystery" by J Stan the Gardner, master of the steeply vertical and overhung.
In it, the cartel sends a string of burros under La Cerca via a long-abandoned tunnel dating back to pre-El Chapo days, but not as far back as Miami Vice. No way. That was in J Stan's youthful bloom.
Just wanna tellya, Johnstan, this place would not be the same sans you and your vibe.
