Lotta words but +1 Madbolter

We have to think not just about the “ends,” but what the “means” means for society.

I hope as much as the next bleeding heart liberal that Trump (and Pruitt, and ....) are held accountable in a court of law. I’m for prosecuting Democrat criminals too. But whatever societal angst we have should be focused not on vengeance against Trump (who is a symptom of a broken system), but on fixing the system

Election finance reform, media transparency, redistricting rules, voting access and integrity, enforcement and accountability for provable lies...the foundations of a healthy democracy are badly damaged in our country but they can be fixed. If we keep ignoring them, we should expect more of the same of Trump’s ilk, more us/them drama while the rich/poor divide grows and we squander rights that people have shed blood for hundreds of years to provide us with.

Our country is in deep need of introspection, and I don’t see it happening yet. It is hard enough for one person to make major strides in emotional growth, and pretty daunting to consider how we can do it together as a society. It will only come about through rational dialog and finding common ground that taps into our shared emotional needs and desires. It won’t happen from a witch hunt against Trump (even if he is a despicable human being by many of our judgments).

Here's a short recap, old man.

Everybody thought Trump was a joke, who would screw everything up and be gone in short order. Turns out he's doing an excellent job of keeping his campaign promises. You know.... the promises that attracted voters.

MB1's bigger point goes to the mindset/behavior of the left. It's become overrun with intolerant myopic haters. They exemplify the negative characteristics they accuse Trump supporters of possessing.

There's little room for civil discourse. It's about shutting down the other guy.

Madbolter, shoveling piles and piles of didactic verbage to mask your bullshit reasoning doesn't fool anyone here. (Edit- I guess it does)
To a rational person, only one point resonates- You are forever on record for defending Trump.

From and academic standpoint, let's you and I revisit this topic in about a year.

Actually, I don't think any reasonable mind could interpret Madbolter's comments as defending Trump (once that reasonable mind was able to labor through his whole novel that is).

I think he's arguing for less dogmatic thinking and more analyzing for oneself. For an attempt at objective fairness.

It's the things he has written in the past that lead me to believe he supports trump.

Madbolter-
Basically any idea you don't agree with is instantly labeled as "hate speech."
There it is in one sentence.

Classic MadBolter equivocation, and a common chord struck by those who wish to brand Trump as and his supporters as victims of left-wing intolerance.

Almost every renowned presidential historian, nonpartisan National Security expert and Constitutional law scholar agree that Trump is attempting to tear apart our institutions and subvert the Constitution. This goes well beyond your cavalier label of political disagreement.

Again, let's see where this is in one year.

A civil and reasonable response. But good luck convincing liberals here. They quite firmly believe "you're either with us. . . or against us."

Oh geeeezzz, now you're just making things up. Kinda like when you claimed you would pay your work crews a living wage, right?

See, the thing is, viewed from the center, you could just as easily have typed "conservatives" where you typed "liberals."

And not even from the center but from predominantly an ethical standpoint.

I'm a lifelong liberal, Democrat and have railed often against Hillary and her cadre of cynical, lying operatives. And yes, I got plenty of sh#t from the partisans- we know who they are.

Just have the balls to call out one of your own...

Lituya- my employees are free to seek employment elsewhere but they just seem to stick around for years- wonder why?

For some really fun reading.... look back one year and see what the ST boys and girls were predicting.

Great, let's keep it civil so the thread doesn't get axed and revisit in May, 019.
