I ran 6 miles today and 6, with the group Sunday. Two hours MTB in the woods Monday. I think I'm pretty well past the slump from the HM followed a week later by an 11 miler.
I'm really liking my Track Bike on the roads. The acceleration is good.
Two short course running races consecutive w/ends in June. So I need to squeeze in another LTR soon.

Trying to pack in as much aerobic as possible before being sailboat captive. A scatter shot yesterday...
A 5 miler mid pace street run, ice skating (minimal aerobic), swim, gym and then my beloved restorative yoga.
Now off for a "mini mountain challenge" bike ride. Hope I'm up for it.

Most excellent news, Moosedrool.
Still trying to balance the training requirements for several aerobic adventures. A nagging twinge in the schilles forced me to consider adding real rest - as opposed to a rest day from biking, filled with running or vice versa. Took Saturday off - conducting the final field day for our team's entry level rope rescue course.
Sunday morning was the long trail run. I am eager to do more of it at the site of the ultra I want to do in September. So I parked at June Lake, took off, remembered I forgot to put my parking pass in the window, and ran back to the car. No worries about how I would add the extra 2 miles I needed to get that total mileage up to 22 miles now.
Ran back up the June Lake Trail to the Loowit. The boulder hopping was a bit better than the last time - I went further before trail direction confusion set in. Rehearsing this part of the race a couple more times will be on the to-do list. Navigated across Chocolate Falls and up towards the Ptarmiga Trail. At 4,200', the trail disappeared under steep and deep snow. The transition zone was about 5 feet. Tree wells loomed that were easily 10' or more deeper. I didn't have a traction device for my feet. However the grabbing tree tops for support method allowed me to survive this section without taking a screamer. Felt like a confused monkey in a frozen forest. Lost buckets of time. The aerobic conditioning here was hyperventilation from fear.
Happily I made it to the Ptarmigan. Clearly moving on to Butte Camp was silly. I basked in the sun, desparately trying to dry my socks and feet, downed some trail food, and adopted a less snow covered plan. The Ptarmigan was in great shape (usually isn't the opening weekend for Climber's Bivvy). Continued running down the gravel road, then over to Red Rock Pass where the sounds of gun blasts sang out. Not happy about this. I am out of water. I stashed a water bottle in Red Rock Pass because that is where I planned to exit the trails. Tried to glide slightly into the pass and grabbed the water. Now the run continued over gravel and rugged asphalt roads back to my car at June Lake.
All those aching body parts cooperated with no fuss. I didn't have to shortchange the mileage. After preventative icing, jumped into newly cleaned hot tub with husband. Success. Hoping more more running, less snow, and less jogging next time.

Body needs fuel, or it won't go very fast.
Easier weekend - 10 miles of running on Saturday. Biked 40 on Sunday, then ran 3 miles. Still have a long way to go to get ready for the biking event. At leaat I tacked some longer hills and lived.
Mpt gppd climbing weather this weekend. Next weekend - long run, lang ride and I want to climb. Sleep is not scheduled!!

Short in miles, killer in cardio. A semi-street, semi-trail run up our local "cardiac hill". Indeed it was, doubly, because at the top was a breath taking clear view all the way down Monterey Bay. Not often clear on summer mornings. Just fluffs my aura and spirit and everything else.
Seamstress, I always enjoy reading about your adventures! You go girl!
Good on ya, Moosedrool, too!

Ran off my fastest 5 mile race ever yesterday in Central Park.
A nice 6.5 Progression run today. Going after my 10k PR Sunday in Queens. Not going to be easy. The miles 2 -4 go around a Lake which seems to pump the heat and often there are puddles and mud.
But Queens is one a my fav races. It's on the site of the 64 Fairgrounds.

First day off in like thirteen. Tried to sleep late. Lasted till a little after six. Decided for a before breakfast spin on the bike. Predicted high of 99° but it was Oudh and high sixties,Kept on going, despite lack of caffeine, pushed up the hill to the Moab brand trails.went past and up 313, eventually turned around and hit the single track and down the hl home. Ended up with 37 miles before the heat and before breakfast!

Did my first Century yesterday. (and first bike race ever) It was hot in Santiago Canyon and there was a lot more gain than I figured on.
Still finished in about the middle of the pack of 400.

Glad to see folks conteding with the heat. John - I remember that spot at the World's Fair, quite a treat for me at the time.
I am beginning to think that the crazy training and challenges ahead might be doable.
Ran 24 - 25 miles, nearly all on rugged trails on Friday. Gained 2,000 vertical on trenched single track trail up to Butte Camp. Then the terrain was "more reasonable". Much of the Loowit is above treeline, and the sun was strong. Stopped at 8 miles to cool my feet in the snow fed creek. Shockingly cold. Continued to the trail wash out near Sheep Canyon. Paused on the lip of the canyon, gathering the courage to plunge down. Of course, at the very moment when safety demands no one above or below, there were six people trying to get through this ugly spot simultanesouly. The first four of us (of course including me) did not find the flagged way out, but the last two did. I'm dodging boulders unleashed by a woman less mountain goat-like than myself. I used my best big sister voice to encourage all to leave a little room here.
The rest of the run planned for the trail was fabulous, especially when diving back into the cool forest. Out at the trailhead, the run appeared to be in the bag. But wait, I went down the gravel road a mile, and no junction in sight. I know the road was washed out, but was it obliterated? I panicked and dropped onto a cross country ski trail heading towards Red Rock Pass. A little later, my GPS informed me that I took a wrong turn at the last trail intersection. It is getting late.
Now I generally tell people that bushwahcking is not the best idea becuase they put trails in the best places for human travel and around obstacles. Did I heed my own advice? Nope. I decided to follow a contour line 1/2 mile to get onto the correct trail. The GPS did not show the three deep and digusting washes that I had to figure out how to cross. Like a rodent, I curried back and forth on the lips of these loose canyons looking for any feasible way across.I thrashed through vegetaion. Now my legs are bleeding, attracting miquitos as dusk approaches. I am frantically leaping over deadfall, trying to beat the impending dusk. Lesson - I should have retraced my steps. It would have been MUCH FASTER and MUCH EASIER.
FInally I pop out at Red Rock Pass. My radio transmissions indicated that I was fine but late. I was not in dire need of help, so I was not going to outright ask for help. More miles were run than planned. Did my husband pick up on that hint and meet me? No. However one of the fine young men on our rescue team heard my status report and offered to intercept me. I joyfully accepted the offer, thus the run stayed at about 25 miles.
Since I am planning on stacking a 50 K trail run and a 7 day bike ride, my longest bike ride was also planned for this past weekend - Ariel to Lava Canyon and back. It included hills up to 11% grade, several thousand vertical gain, and totaled 46 miles. I was terrified that I would not be able to complete the hills. That is not enough to stop me from trying. I managed to get up all the hills with only one unplanned stop. There was a flat tire, and I wrestled that tube out and in - without the help of my MIA training partner and Sag wagon. Another good experience, in retrospect.
That's a lot of words to say - training is going well. I am beginning to believe I can do this. My awesomely sculpted legs must stay hidden beneath cloth to hide the souvenirs of my bushwahcking session.

Every couple months there's a small group of us that do creek scrambles. We try to combine Mtn biking to a trail head, hike till we find a good place to enter a creek and then follow it for 4 or so miles until it looks like a good exit spot to get back out and hike to our bikes. The obstacles of log jams and boulders is much fun. Although yesterday I did a nasty side slip and fell on my hip. Oweeeee. We've done Fall Creek, Big Sur, and two parts of Aptos this spring. Yesterday we did 4 miles in Aptos, hiked back to the bikes and finished with about 10 miles of Mtn biking.

What are you doin'? hunting for poison oak? Lucky me, I'm not allergic to it. My other buds are, therefore they wear long pants strapped across their ankles. Unfortunately I ran into several, no make that really a lot, of stinging nettles. Oh well, all in a days fun.
