Driving alone for hours with so many thoughts .... so many mixed emotions....probably like everyone else headed to Mammoth to grieve and celebrate an incredible human, a friend and a man we will all miss more than can be expressed in words.
Hitting the East ..... where the hills and mountains appear from nowhere out of the barren flat lands. Actually at this point I cried and really disliked the rocks for claiming a friend that was woven into their lives as well as so many of our lives. John's impact on this planet, the rocks and we the people was huge and special.
Thinking as I drove...Beautiful as you are mountain, rock, sun, clouds and sky I dislike you intensely and won't be walking your hood ever again. Keep your rocks I can find life and pleasure elsewhere where the creation doesn't kill a friend and mentor.
Then Family and Friends surprised me by turning up and said, "Lets go climbing". Well, I wanted to tell them I hated the rock, but couldn't. Their enthusiasm was just to joyous and contagious. So off we went to Clarks Canyon out of Bishop....Men, women, children and dogs. :D
Off we go....cool place....me still fuming at the rock.

Yeah, then lynnie....so swearing now.... JB yo offered so many times to take me on the rock .... show me how to set anchors and show me the technique. I thought life was forever.....

Hey dear Lynnie,
Thank you for all the great photos and heartfelt thoughts. Seeing those kids out at Clark's Canyon made me think about the beauty of the cycle of things. It keeps rollin' on, one way or another, doesn't it?

Largo and all my friends from the days of old... sorry for such a late response here, but I've been on the road for the past week and just returned. I know what your going through and feel for you, its not easy loosing someone this close, not now, not ever. I myself have been wandering around empty and hallow ever since I got news of this, and not being able to make it for the memorial made me feel even more at a loss. Regardless, it was great to see the pictures of all you guys at the memorial, it really made me feel homesick and realize how much I missed all you guys. I really wish I could have made it over for the memorial but I was locked into something I couldn't get out of, so the best I could do was be there in heart and spirit... You take care and hope to see you all of you again soon- Craig

Julia Parkers prayer was powerful. Just before her prayer, bet she's thinking. Anyone remember her exact words....Lonnie, Ron. ???
I do remember her saluting the north, south, east and west and saying that John was passing through....Love that phrase....passing through ....to the Heavenlies.
She also said JB would come over for good food, the taco's the enchiladas ....Gal jess wish I could know you and your obvious love and kindness you give to the ones around you. Peace and Love, Lynne

Dave Yerian, center in green shirt and jacket. Gave a very cool talk from the heart...no notes, just thinking about the past and people and wanting healing. Special talk, special guy.
Edit: If you wonder why I have quite a few pics it's cause I asked Paola, the Bachar Family and Ron Gomez on Sunday if it would be ok to do. They said this was an incredibly special occasion and wanted it memorialized and to go for it. Just wish I was a real photographer. I did some small photo journalism for a newspaper in our community but very small spuds. Anyway....it's kind of healing too posting these and remembering.

Lynne, I believe that Lucy's mom 's name is Julia. I came across a poster in the Joshua Tree Library, which was a painting of Julia, Lucy, Ursula and Ursula's daughter (who's name I can't remember).
I wish I could have gotten on of those posters.
I used to love it when Lucy and Virginia would make me Indian Fry Bread. It's so good!
I so wish that I could have made it to the memorial!
