Anyone with social skills can build a network in months. It may not be as extensive as Susan's but it will do.

I need a Saturday prtner as well. Last week, I got one from mentioning it here on ST, after having a request up on rc all week....so who knows!
I made a request for season partners back in April and got plenty of responses, most of which the person never followed through on.
Responder #1: "(Some variation of) I'll climb!"
Me: "Great! How bout this weekend?"
Responder #1: I can't
Responder #2: "(Some variation of) I'll climb!"
Me: "Great! How bout this weekend?"
Responder #2: I'll get back to you by Thursday(and doesn't)
Responder #3: "(Some variation of) I'll climb!"
Me: "Great! How bout this weekend?"
Responder #3: ......(still waiting; I suppose maybe something horrible happened to them
and so on, and so on......

there is more action down at the gym than in most strip joints i have been to.

People (male or female) want what they want, and that's that.
In addition, relationship failure - climbing partner, friend, significant other, etc. - is a two way street, but most of us like to blame the other person and try to avoid a little introspection.
Easy to understand but hard to accept.
