Really sad news but obvious that OUCH! lived an excellent life, and he shared the best he had with all of us. I (WE) will miss him!
Sincerest condolences.

I can tell you Allie, that he did the same for us in spades!
He took us "outside of the walls" of our seriousness with his ticklish ministrations.
Ouch! -your wonderful Dad, placed himself at the very core of our laughable little selves, helping us to giggle along in the midst of things real & unreal.
Thanks for sharing with us some nice details Allie: and for helping us to know a little more about a terrific man.
Best wishes for you,
Roy

Just got back from the weekend to see this thread. Of course, when I saw the title, I had an idea what it would be about.
Allie, thank you for letting us know of Ouch!'s passing and the other, wonderful things you also mentioned. I recall last year when he had mentioned, very vaguely, about not feeling well. he wasn't posting much and we buggered and pestered him until finally he came on and said he was still around. Of course we were all relieved, but we were also a little sad. Because we knew Ouch! was a man who'd had a lot of life, and we knew that some day it would end. As it does for us all. So, though I was not shocked to read in your post he had passed away, it is still sad, because I knew he had family whom he loved very much, and that you would miss him terribly.
Ouch! was a FANTASTIC human being and he gave so much to this forum. It makes me feel good to know that he got to extend his days "out there" by being here. He's far from the only one who used to do it all, and continues that life through reading and posting to this place. What a gift Supertopo is, and Allie's posts show that to be the truth.
I always looked forward to an Ouch! cartoon, and to know that they were his way of expressing humor to his family as well as here seems to make them all the more special. I rememeber the one he did that had me in it. I had just got back from climbing in JTree, and he made an animated one where Locker was leading a traverse on a JTree dome. I was following. The cartoon would show Locker making progress and then all of a sudden the rock "turned" into the head of a giant monster dinosaur! It opened it's mouth and swallowed Locker up! Afterward, when the cartoon started again, it was so obvious to see the monster in it, which before Ouch! had brought him to life, I hadn't noticed. Ouch! was creative and really knew what good-hearted humor was.
Of course I will miss him. As we all will. But Allie, you can be certain that Ouch! may be gone from this plane of existence, but he will live on forever in our hearts. He will be brought up often, as people recall something he wrote, or a funny cartoon he made, at various moments in the future.
I know your heart is hurting with the loss of your dad. I wish you comfort in this time of sorrow. What a great dad your father has been, and a great friend he has been here on Supertopo too.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Your father had a way to make everyone laugh at their folly. I don't know that there
are words enough to thank him for the joy he brought to the
taco.
My condolences to you, and to all of us at the taco that will
miss him so.

Allison et al,
Can't even put it in words. Funniest stuff on ST. Wanted to send him a picture of myself so he could superimpose a chicken head on it but never got around to it.
Peace to all who miss him.

Your pop was truly, truly a classic, and had a lovely way of seeing the world. He was also the proprietor of one hell of an interesting mind.
I'll never see a twinkie, a bear, or a ranger again without thinking of Ouch!

hey there jem... say, that was a sweet post-pic of the ol' bear missing out... that says it for all of us...
say, allie---i already posted-up here, but after seeing your wonderful slip and slide photo... say, you know:
that is a perfect pic of heaven---the critters will be at peace with mankind... and joy will be there...
say, we come to understand that ouch! trusted us, to share his cartoons here, as, he could have kept them ONLY for you all... we did not know that he did them for family, until now---as---some folks are turned away from their families when they share hobbies:
we have even more joy now, nowing that his family loved him and his work.. and that there was a whole rich life behind this man, who posted the "likes of which i had never seen before" and "did it in hilarious fun and in kindness as well (and---along with quirky guy-stuff for the men hear here!), oh my! :)
well, as i said---i had already posted my condolences and messagea to you and your mom... so this was just a shared-note..

Ouch! made us laugh. HE seemed like a genuinely good person too.
There's not a whole lot better that you can say about someone.
I'll miss his humor and presence.

wow. I'm so sorry. I always clicked on an Ouch! thread, always good for a laugh.
I doesn't suprise me to hear more about the real life Ouch, his caring and humor were easy to see on this forum.
He will be missed greatly.

I'm inspired here. Shocked, because he pulled the ultimate fast one on us, but smiling for that too. Gotta admire the Chesire-Cat-man stealthing up to whisk the rug out from under us -- and then quick as a wink sliding in a bouldering pad so you can hit the deck laughing at being skewered.
So pleased that someone noticed deftly enough to pull a direct-hit Gotcha!... so utterly taken out by gut-laughing -- not the cute acronym and not the winking punctuation-face, but the real real deal, way uncommon but pretty reliable when he showed up -- that maybe we can be excused for failing to notice that the trickster behind the curtain was not young and vigorous and impish as he came across.
Here's an extra-large peanut butter jar going to the El Cap celebration. Leaving it out in the meadow. Bear #46, wherever you are, drown your sorrows. You, of all people... tossing and turning and wandering the suddenly bleak Valley when you should be hibernating.

This is indeed very sad news. I truly enjoyed his photo antics.
I regret as well as am relieved to have never been the target of his humor.
Good bye OUCH!
My condolences to his family and friends.

I am sorry to hear of your loss. I am essentially a lurker around here (though I do pipe in every now and then) but OUCH's cartoons were the best. I am one of the types who has dreamed of making it to the Valley but just haven't done so yet. His cartoons brought me there with a great sense of humor w/ old #46.
All the best to you and your family as you grieve for your loss but delight in a life well-lived.
May God bless and comfort you all during this time.

I never met ouch but I sure did know of him! My internet network at the office has this web filtering software that prohibits me from seeing most of his photos at work. I'd E-mail myself links to my house of some of his funny photos so I could see them later. He made me laugh so hard and even inspired me to mess around with some photo shopping of my own. I will really miss his posts. He contributed so much to this site. He'd post a thread and I'd have to open them. My condolenences to all of you who knew this really neat man. I'm going to miss him around here. This is very sad news. :-(

A couple of thoughts:
“Ouch,” the word, is used to indicate sudden pain. And that’s how we all feel with his passing. Ouch!, the man, was the antithesis of pain – he was the personification of playful joy.
I feel our Tribe has lost something akin to our Medicine Man – an honored and respected Chief whose potions of silly humor and laser insight chased away evil. Through Ouch!, bad omens were scattered and replaced by rainbows.
