On January 19, 1977, Old Man Winter paid an unwelcomed visit to residents of Miami, Florida (yes, Florida, not Ohio) and brought along a surprise gift -- snow! For the first time in the history of the extreme south of Florida, snow danced through the air and dusted the ground briefly. A quarter century later, the scene has not been repeated

no doubt that was what caused terri shavio's heart to stop beating in the 1st place!

[edit]
and as i'd said before, you did have to read about it online.

The clever word jugglery of Matt....

Arguing all the specific points in Matt's points is a waste of time. I could, but he will simple counter argue and we could go on with this for many lifetimes.

You have no power to drive away this mist, except through the clever use of word jugglery.

Case closed!

Except for the Tasaday. They are all going to Hell.

In the early '70s an isolated tribe called the Tasaday were discovered in the Phillipines. They were hunter-gatherers living with Stone Age technology, and had had no contact with the outside world.

About this time a Methodist minister came by to bring me back to church going. I asked him what was to become of the Tasaday. They had never heard of Jesus Christ, and had never had a chance to accept Him as their Savior.

He said it was too bad, but they were doomed to Eternal Damnation, along with everyone else who had never accepted JC.

Luck of the draw, eh?

While the Tasady turned out to be a hoax, the idea was the same. People, who through geography had never been exposed to Jesus were condemned for eternity. Cool, huh? What a god.

So they went to heaven, even though they had not accepted JC as their personal Savior?

no gary, they were f*#ked, just like the rest of the folks that aren't subservient to that particular gaawwd.

you cannot be inflexible on the idea of creation and then be flexible on the idea of absolution, not gonna cut the mustard.

oh, and those missionaries, like many before them, probably brought some spectacular western diseases that the native peoples were without any genetic immunity to, and in that way and others they probably began a snowball effect that ruined the culture and killed off it's people- par for the course, historically speaking.

No bolt. This is an ancient practical joke that used to appear on the rec.climbing newsgroup every year around April Fool's Day, posted by Jeff Batten (aka Juan de Fuca, aka Rockstar, etc.). Now it is just an "in joke". Back then he apparently used to climb some and tried to get up Washington Column and the Nose. And he didn't troll except on April Fool's. Now it seems 99% of his posts to various forums are trolls, and he posts quite often. Too bad, because a high volume of trolls makes people less willing to participate, for fear that they can't distinguish trolls from real questions/facts. And trolls can be funny if they are done a little less often. But if it's just the same thing over and over it's not funny to me.

I thought Rockstar was at JT last Friday. Does the continued existence of this thread imply that he's going back again? I thought someone offed him last week? Will he retrobolt Double Cross every time he drags his crippled carcass to the desert?

So Matt, how many gods are there?

the greeks thought there were a bunch of them, so who is to say they were wrong? i don't have the answers for you werner, just like you don't have the answers for me. i generally don't object to anyone else's own personal thoughts or interpretations on the matter, but just to make conversation, if a certain religion offers a choice between it's way or the highway (to hell), isn't that a little like spiritual terrorism?

So how can you believe all this religous mumbo jumbo without proof a soul exists?

For all you know we are just the result of the periodic table and eons of time.

As for the bolt on Double Cross, it has been chopped as of Sunday. But I plan to replace it Saturday.

I was over in Venice last night at Maxwell's Cafe and Largo was crying, he told me that he cannot figure out what is real any more on Supertopo and will never post again.

Forget the books--find a zendo and start practicing Zazen mediatation. It all issues from he practice. You're working in reverse.

Did you mean I am a god or a rock god? And I am afraid that a soul was not provided to me a birth. Well, I will just have to make do without.

How about you?
