I cringe when "young" people use the word "awesome".
Like if I buy a battery at Radio Shack, they might call my purchase awesome.
Once about a year ago, I told the awesome word user that awesome would be landing
on the moon, or finding a cure for cancer, but not that I ordered a hamburger.

Modern life, and English - a swarm of superlative and unnecessary adjectives, chasing a noun, any noun, to give them meaning.
One way they used to teach writing was to get people to write about a subject they were familiar with. Then go over the piece, remove all adjectives and adverbs, and see how it read then.

What's wrong with graupel? It's a good, if somewhat specialized, noun. You wouldn't want to use it for ordinary hail.

Oh yeah, I don't know if "Bud" is on the list but it is not a favorite seems quite condascending. As in "Hey Bud I think you will need a few cams" Seems to be the new "dude" at times.
