We have an interest in making Haiti a much better place than it is, making the world a better place than it is, and to have those people realize the ideals that this country was founded on. When the POTUS looks down in disgust at those other nations he doesn't raise the bar, he doesn't stoke the hope, he doesn't encourage those other peoples to rise to the challenge of bettering themselves and their situation and their nation.
When the POTUS wonders why we would let people from countries he describes as "shitholes" come to our country he condemns them, how could they interpret it any other way. He has said they are not worth consideration.
That is not what the "leader of the free world" would do if he had any idea of leadership.

News says that there has been projections on the Trump DC hotel changed from the "Pay Bribes Here" to be "Shithole." Easy enough to search if you need to see it.

Early on I thought about nuking this thread, but the posts from some pretty intelligent persons with some really cogent comments dissuaded me. America can be great again. Ed, thanks for the poem. My American grandparents were poor immigrants from Slovakia, my NZ parts were Norwegians and English.

Trump spoke in exactly the way what seems to pass for a Christian leader would be expected to speak.
Such humility, such compassion for the less well off.
Shows the world what American Christianity is all about. He is first among equals in America, the people chose him (by our system) to be the face of America.

According to Trump , Norway isn't a sh--hole...Is that becuase Norway has a higher tax rate that benefits all of their country..? 43 million American's live below the poverty level or 14% of the population..Trump and the 3 stooges just gave America's wealthiest a tax break and the middle class and poor some bread crumbs...Next Trump and gang want to reduce SS and medicare calling them entitlements .. Is Donald pushing America closer to sh--holedom..?

Yes, in Norway you are to a large extent free. You are free because you pay tax to secure welfare, healthcare, childcare. In America 90% of people will end up as the slaves of vulgar capitalists like Mr Trump. And the 9% in the upper middle class will be so afraid to dump down into the 90% miserable that they will support every restriction on tax pay proposed by the 1% vulgar capitalists, be it the Trumps or the Clintons of the country...
America isn't sh#t.
Americans are not sh#t.
But the American system is causing sh#t...

Before, it was just “locker room talk”. Why ya all got your knickers in a twist”.
Now, it’s just “Oval Office Talk”. I’m still struggling with how much lower can it go. He was right, he could shoot someone on 57th St and he’d still have his base.
Oh, and you former New Yorkers I lived on 48th and Third during the early 70s. No “upper” stuff for me just plain ole Midtown.

^^^^ Given an American context those three are socialists like Bernie, but given a Norwegian context they are right wing and can/will bring us in the American economic-juridical system direction... That's my concern...

"...48th and Third during the early 70s. No “upper” stuff for me just plain ole Midtown."
NYC in the 70s is a whole different place than it is today, we never looked for a place midtown, Columbia moved to the upper west side in 1896 (from 49th and Madison, close to SC seagoat's haunt)... the student body followed.
But at that time a "dirtbag academic" could still find a place to live. I suspect there would have been opportunities midtown in the 1970s, not sure about now.
for those who don't know, the "upper" stuff shouldn't be confused with the "uptown" stuff

Marlow, you do recall you already sent many of your poor people here so there wasn’t a lot
of heavy lifting left to do, especially after you drilled holes in the sea floor. I remember life
there before the oil. It was nice, to be sure, but there weren’t as many Porsches or
Hallberg-Rassys about. ;-)

Marlow, I would love to know where you came up with that 90% miserable number. How unfortunate that we all can't live in a nice rustic Norwegian cabin, sit by a fireplace at night, play folk instruments by the shore in the afternoon, or shoot one of the few remaining continental brown bears at our leisure.
And Mr. Ed, yes, thanks for reminding once again that you are an academic who went to Columbia back in the day. No doubt this lends much power to your politard thread arguments--where you post exclusively nowadays.
