At my position in a narrow canyon draining a major portion of the snow plastered Pah Rah Range I'm hoping for a miss of the upcoming front. Maybe it will be less moisture laden than the last and/or swing far to the south where they still need some. One can hope for the best and still keep the meager flood preps in place.

hey there say, reilly, wow, thanks for that 'ski run' pic, of that road...
:O
say, and dingus, as to this:
I know, right? To be fair a lot of the water in the above photo represents standing water on rice paddies. A flood, yes, but a controlled flood, at this point. Water protection system did its job this time, so far, for the most part.
DMT
I JUST LEARNED SOMETHING about sacramento, from a news link, oh my...
(never heard this in school, far as i remember) ...
THIS MUST BE, what you meant, by controlled flood of the rice-paddies, right:
https://www.wired.com/2017/01/california-flooding-keep-cities-flooding/
ALSO: in article:
To see how close California is to being drowned by its recent winter storms, just look to the small crowd of spectators and TV newscasters gathered yesterday on the northwest side of the state capital hoping to watch state water managers open the gates of the Sacramento Weir. The weir, something between a dam and a levee, lets dangerously high water spill over its top into a long, narrow, floodplain filled with rice paddies, grain fields, and other row crops.
Californians pay attention to the weir for three reasons. One: People here are obsessed with water. Two: The thing hasn’t been opened in a decade. Three: Opening the 100-year old piece of infrastructure is a spectacle, requiring a person wielding a long, hooked pole to manually unlatch each of its 48 wooden floodgates. The crowd slept through that spectacle; state workers opened the weir in the dark, early this morning. They can still catch the sight of water thundering over the weir and into the Yolo Bypass, flooding the plain to protect the city of Sacramento.

hey there say, batrock...
now, we just need a pic of him, and his ice tools, ;)
thanks for sharing some fun, here... my daddy would have
got a kick out of that, :)
happy good day, :)
how is your area doing, with the weather, by the way?
we are just cold and rainy here, but lots of rough ice all over--
slick and kind of bad, in that respects...
but a much more mild winter, than about 2-3 years back...
last year was bit milder too, but more snow...
but then, me, what do i know, :))
i'm from calif and south texas, :))

DMT--They're blowing this giant beaver thing up all out of proportion. Coulda been a gang of normal-sized beavers.
Nice enlargement, BTW.

The "Feast or Famine State." You either get a lot of precip. or very little. A "normal year" never actually occurs.

Here in Carson it's amounted to nothing much more than a dusting. Haven't paid much attention to the top of the mountain; but I headlines about avalanche warnings and such. There was a good solid 8ft berm on the side of I80 when we drove over the top to Roseville last weekend. Still hoping for a break to drag some gear out with Rick. Failing that, maybe a longer exploratory drive toward Tonopah? Might be dry enough down that way...
