I don't think any major ski manufacturer has been making tele specific skis since K2 killed their telemark line and Karhu went kaput. Both those were probably 5 years ago. You don't need a specific ski to make telemark turns although something with a bit of give is nice.
Really, in my mind, the best tele skiers can rip on old gear. Making tele turns on plastic boots, shaped skis, burly bindings takes about 1/20th the skill of linking them with a floppy leather boot, 3 pin binding and E99s.
I linked 2 on my skate skis once (on perfect, new corduroy) and considered that an achievement.

Look at all the love you are getting Wilbeer. People do care if you tele, and that is awesome. I was a tele skier for 25 years, learned in the Adirondacks, perfected my skills in Summit County, Colorado, and happily dropped a knee throughout North and South America.
I switched to AT when I found myself parallel skiing on my tele's to save energy, (i.e. getting older). Not wanting to sit back in my stance, I decided to lock in for the downhill.
I always loved the mobility of tele gear, and appreciated lighter gear. AT gear has come so far with carbon boots, fat skis and tech bindings, it just made sense to switch. And I still take pride in owning a quiver of one (part of the simplicity philosophy which led me to Nordic skiing in the first place). I sold all my tele gear and now I only free my heels for the uphill.
I've seen the full evolution and it's all good!

My Girlfriend ?
I have always hoped she would find a nice guy
she was great and the best in bed if you liked it wet
but for tele you must have iron knees
infact you like the turns? think of the strain
back to bed with a wet old friend ...ice pack
that is what led her astray that wet cold bag
and my inability to kneel.
Think of the sexual limitations
nobody cares if you tele
don't tell E any one

Hey all!
I am in the market for my first pair of Tele boots. Just got my first pair of skis and voile 3-pin bindings. Really psyched learn how to ski.
Does anyone know or have a lead on a relatively good deal for a pair of tele boots? I've been looking at all the sales, discount websites, even using my pro deals and can't find anything in my size (10.5 street shoe, 28.5 euro) under around $400. I really was hoping to spend $300 max for a solid pair of used tele boots. They don't have to be the newest or best, this is my first pair after all.
Any tips would be thankful!

Depending on where you live craigslist could be a good choice. Especially if you live near someplace like Denver, SLC or Tahoe. Around here (reno/tahoe) you can get some amazing deals on very good used ski equipment. Avoid e-bay for boots as you HAVE to try them on for fit before buying.

Sierra Trading Post had an insane amount of AT/tele boots in all sizes marked way down earlier this week. Like modern boots under $200 new.
Props to attempting to learn on 3 pins. Honestly, if you went with something a bit more modern (plastic boots + heavier bindings, like an O3 from BD or my personal favorite Voiles Switchback) in terms of a binding the learning curve would be less steep and you'd probably be having fun quicker.
The used gear shop in Bishop (Mammoth Mounteering(?) consignment shop has a ridiculous amount of used tele boots. They have been asking way too much for used tele boots for going on 3 or 4 years, so they sit and gather dust. Maybe they have started accepting reasonable offers on them? Worth trying if you're in the area.
I would get an account at Backcountry Talk and ask over there.

Thanks for the tips all. I'll try sierra trading post. I was in mammoth mountaineering in bishop about a month ago but at he time was way too confused about what I needed for my first ski setup. The binding options were really confusing me at first. I'm doing 3-pin with plastic boots because I will be doing a lot of cross country tours but want the option to go off trail and down moderate hills. I bought Rossignol BC 110 as my first ski, and they seem pretty cool: not too skinny and metal edges. Waxless too.

enjoimx,I pretty much prefer 3 pin bindings and waxless skis.
We have some long approaches over here.
I ski Scarpa t2's and t4's and sometimes the Asolos.
Still run these
3 pins :)
