Will you two quit arguing over silly kayakers.

If a thousand year flood is biblical what is a hundred-thousand year flood?
Maybe the result of this will be better planning and more accommodation for future events.

That water in that video was sh#t brown. Other than the fact the dude got swept away in the end, into what looked like a bridge, who'd want to paddle in that sh#t? A few mouthfuls of that, and you'd probably wish you'd drowned.

big water is a different game, faster and dirtier, but there is a lot of water to cover up the stuff you would have hit at a lower flow, rapids on a regular run get "washed out" at high flows, tends to smooth out and make it a class lower in difficulty,

the better the kayaker, the fewer the brain cells, so look for these types doing the extreme stuff,

Consulting Methuselah.

The Kolob is getting pounded again, the trifecta; rain, thunder and big bolts.
And there is still debris in the street in Toquerville.

I hope it is not headed to the Front Range.

Edit: The pix. of BrassNuts are better than those on the above link. Hey Brass, how did you get into the park? It was closed when I was there earlier today.

The loss of life is bad enough, but flood insurance is often difficult to get, and I would wager that those front range canyons, which do flood like crazy, are difficult to insure.

This means that they lose everything. All of it, without flood insurance.

I would wager that those areas close to the water are in mapped flood zones already.

Bummer for loss of property, too.

Air National Guard helicopters flying over my place in Boulder all day evacuating residents of Jamestown who were cut off when their road was washed away.

A run on milk at the local supermarkets for some reason.

The water has stopped flowing into my basement. If tomorrow's storm doesn't rekindle the flow I might just be able to get a handle on the damage.

Yeah, kinda morbid and depressing, but I really wanted to see what happened to Eldo... but man, I was sad afterwards, the canyon took such a beating as did so many areas and homes. Ugh.

The one mountain town I haven't heard any mention of is Nederland. It has a creek running through it and into the reservoir. Does anyone know how it fared and the people up there?

WITH BIBLICAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS REPORTED IN MANY AREAS IN/NEAR
THE FOOTHILLS.

now that's funny. Maybe in the winter we'll see "WAY-GNAR POW-POW" reported?

The only good I can think of is that the chalk should be washed off most routes.

BruceH, hope you get it all cleaned up!

That is some serious rain!

Just saw Brassnuts's pics of Eldo. Incredible! I live in a community called Heatherwood, and there are no signs of flooding in the immediate neighborhood (unlike Dave and Callie's and countless others'). Rained quite a bit last night to add fuel to the fire.
